Stoic If you hadn't taught me How to be so strong Then maybe I could shed A few tears on your behalf. Maybe, if I lacked the iron That you gave me, I'd have the chance to crumple And whimper in a ball Or just seek comfort. And if I were less infected With your altruism Then maybe I'd complain. Maybe I'd rail, shake the cage And the seat of the Powers. But you taught me too well. You taught me to suffer, and be strong And not to weep And not to say it if it truly matters. You taught me not to beg Or roll over defeated. You taught me to stand. |
