Abandonment

Then I was gone.
All the forgone paces
Came flooding back
And overpowered me.

Everything I never was,
All the hopes I disappointed
Covered all my books
Sank all my faces
My mementos
My reason.

I was drained of colour then.
This thoughtlessness not what I'd dreamed.

I could retreat no further.
No more doors to be locked
Or half-dreamt passages to flee down
At odd angles.

And so I was gone.
Outside myself,
Evicted from identity.
Bleached of all the stains I'd
Cloistered beneath my skin.
