Current music:Vanessa Mae (who actually didn't do this piece at all) - Sailor Neptune & Sailor Uranus

too tired to come up with a witty phrase here
ah, I've been away from this longer than I expected. would have posted a week ago, if not for the fact that this past week has been hell. essays to do, stuff to read, tests to study for, and 4 days without a free evening. okay, so that's not much more than usual, but it still didn't help.

just got back from an anime marathon. "hundred stories". very, very good stuff. very, very disturbing stuff. seriously, there's some pretty scary stories and scenes in this one, so it won't reach a wide range of audiences. executed well, though. hamlet would be proud to see something like this. the stories actually keep you guessing until the end of each episode. and the ending actually wraps the story up better than what I can say for most series.

if it wasn't so late, I would balance it out with some "bottle fairy". hypnotically cute. story is about these 4 small fairies who want to become human, so they try to learn what they can from the books that their human master has. how did he come by these fairies? no idea. maybe that's explained later. anyway, they keep misinterpreting every new thing they encounter, and the scenes they act out are so cute. like I said, hypnotically cute.

I'm actually considering writing reviews for this site. although whenever I start up something, I eventually stop doing it. heck, I haven't on talesweaver since winter break.

had two vivid dreams since my last post. like most dreams, I couldn't remember the details, but the first one involved aoi and kaoru from ai yori aoshi, with aoi joining the yakuza in order to find kaoru. absurd? in retrospect, yes. but at the time... damn. it just felt like something she would do. I think before I woke up, they were trying to find a way to get aoi out of there. sigh...

to put things into perspective, I recently ordered the 2004 ai yori aoshi calendar. even though I already bought an ah! my goddess calendar at ushicon. the artwork on this calendar is fucking superb, athough probably all but one of the pictures is on the kinky side. the only reason I have a problem with that is because it's aoi. if anyone has watched the series, he or she would know that aoi is nothing like that. so it make me sad when she's portrayed that way, which gives people the wrong idea.

lol, I was rummaging through my recycling bin (no, not the windows one) to find where I jotted down my notes about my second dream. turns out I typed it out in my temporary blog file. the first part of the dream was based on ultramaniac, although sana from kodocha was in ayu's place. she was in this case with this primordial morphing pool, which she kept going in so she could find a way home. in retrospect, I guess it would have been disturbing to see, but I only felt sorrow then, watching her jump into the pool over and over again.

after that, I wrote down "soup drinking contest", but that doesn't ring a bell. then there was this weird scene where I was in this ship in a large fountain, where I proceed to take on a godzilla-like creature with my bare hands. before waking up, someone told me that we were going to perform henry III in 4 days, although I have yet to find out who "we" were. apparently, I had one of the main roles, because I was freaking out about how I haven't even begun memorizing my lines.

apparently, I had a third dream, with "trip on gondola, ruined geology equipment, british anime/improv comedy thing" written down. none of this I remember.

so how did I spend my valentine's day weekend? by enjoying 4 of the things I love: anime, theater, games, and music.

friday was business as usual at the anime club.

satuday afternoon was phantom of the opera. I gave in and bought a program booklet for 10 bucks. it was actually worth it. and one piece of advice for anyone going to see a play: go all the way. don't try to be cheap like I did. I got the shaft in terms of a good view: up on the second balcony on the far left. actually, I wasn't at the very back, so it could have been worse. the play was well executed. watching the opera house decorations fall into place was spectacular. and the phantom perched on a big ass gargoyle-like statue suspended and lowered from the ceiling... that takes guts. but near the end... damn. hearing the phantom denounce himself as "the angel from hell" touched a nerve in me. and the way he disappeared at the end... you saw it coming, but the fact that they pulled off something like that was still pretty cool.

saturday evening until sunday morning was lan party. to be honest, I was disappointed. I had my hopes up when I heard that the maximum capacity was 1000 people. in fact, maybe around 250 people showed up. I also overestimated the number of people hardcore enough to play until the wee hours of the morning, as well as the number of people willing to play ut2k3. actually, no one played ut2k4, since everyone switched to the ut2k4 demo. that wasn't so bad, except for the fact that "everyone" only consisted of a handful of people. I wouldn't have minded playing halo except that I couldn't find any games when I updated. those were the only two popular games I had with me. everyone else was playing halo, cs, and bf1942. there were actually people playing gunbound, which ruins the purpose of a lan party since you could play that back at home.

saw john jeffords working at tgi fridays while grabbing dinner at the lan party. he used his connections to get me a spot without having to wait. good times.

got around 3 hours of sleep that night. at around 5-6 am, I couldn't take it anymore and slept on my laptop. there were actually people with sleeping bags there. the rules said catnapping was fine but stuff like sleeping bags wasn't, so I didn't come prepared with decent sleeping material. laptop helped keep me warm, but I did leave a greasy arm mark on it =\

got gypped on the ATI spin-the-wheel contest. the first 200 people who registered for the party were supposed to get an extra raffle ticket, but no one told the ATI guy about it. I guess I should be lucky I got to spin at all. my goodie bag didn't come with a ticket, and although I realized it fairly soon, I didn't bother bringing it up. I thought that none of the staff would believe me, but after leaving the hotel to head towards the bus stop, I actually turned back and decided to ask. the guy I talked to actually understood. apparently, some bums decided to go through the goodie bags (which were out there in plain sight) and take most of the tickets.

the contest worked like this. the wheel has 12 spots, with a winning spot in each 3rd one. if you landed on a winning spot, you got to draw a ticket from a bag. 8 of the tickets got you nothing but a t-shirt. 3 of the tickets got you a different 3D card for each either. the best one was probably the one that came with a coupon for a free halflife 2 game when it game out. oh, and if you don't land on a winning spot on the wheel (like me), you get a t-shirt as well.

sunday afternoon was the miro quartet. world-renowned, but making their home at UT. unfortunately, I was rather sleep deprived by then... the fact that my mom used to use classical music to put me to sleep as a kid didn't help >< their last piece was pretty unique, though. composed during the vietnam war, although the composer was actually making a statement about the general darkness in america back then. involved speaking in different languages and using a bunch of different instruments.

I would elaborate, but it's 2:30 and I need to take a shower. got a haircut today, but the clippers took a bit too much off the top. boo.

and a mental note: never leave bittorrent running longer than necessary. ever. because of that, I already used up 3.4 gigs of bandwidth today. after my bandwidth was reset at midnight last night -_-

ooo, almost forgot. it snowed on valentine's day. technically, during the early morning. as in 1 am. big ass snowflakes too. everyone in the dorms went out to party in the snow.
