...because no one tagged me, but I thought I'd like to answer anyway (I'm trying not to feel too unloved that no one thought of me). 1. Reciprocity. I have several friends who I very rarely speak to directly. I read their diaries to keep up with their lives and provide entries in my diary so they can keep up with me if they so wish. It's a singularly odd way to conduct friendships, when you think about it - especially when I'm being rubbish at commenting, so I feel closer to them knowing something about their lives, but they don't even know I know it. At the same time, I just push my life out into the ether and hope that those I wish to know about these things do. 2. Recording. It allows me to keep a record of events. Especially as Rohan grows up, it will be wonderful to read back and remember (though I really ought to write more). 3. Rambling. Sometimes it's nice to just be able to get thoughts in my head out into a written format. 4. Ranting. It's even more useful to get the rants out. I can often diffuse my annoyance by the end of the entry. It's quite cathartic. 5. Requirement. OK, I'm stretching the 'R' thing here, but it is something I feel a need to do. Admittedly, these days I think "I must blog about that" far more than I actually do it, but it is still a frequent thought. Now for 5 people to tag. These are all people on my Google Reader who haven't done this yet - I'm not 100% sure if they've been tagged and decided not to, but I'm going to tag them anyway. This is, of course completely voluntary (I'm not even sure they all read this), so feel free to ignore. Cassis Guy Jazz Lisa Crystal
