    Reformation Sunday
    Many of you have seen and heard this before, but I thought I'd share it again, since today is Reformation Sunday. The 31st October is Reformation Day itself, since it was on that day on 1517 that Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg. This song is about Luther's life and work, but my proposal to sing it at church tonight was shot down flames...

    Some of you bloggers might also want to consider participating in the Second Annual Reformation Day Symposium.

    The Reformation Polka
    by Robert Gebel

    [Sung to the tune of "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"]

    When I was just ein junger Mann I studied canon law;
    While Erfurt was a challenge, it was just to please my Pa.
    Then came the storm, the lightning struck, I called upon Saint Anne,
    I shaved my head, I took my vows, an Augustinian! Oh...

    Chorus:
    Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation
    Speak your mind against them and face excommunication!
    Nail your theses to the door, let's start a Reformation!
    Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!

    When Tetzel came near Wittenberg, St. Peter's profits soared,
    I wrote a little notice for the All Saints' Bull'tin board:
    "You cannot purchase merits, for we're justified by grace!
    Here's 95 more reasons, Brother Tetzel, in your face!" Oh...

    They loved my tracts, adored my wit, all were exempleror;
    The Pope, however, hauled me up before the Emperor.
    "Are these your books? Do you recant?" King Charles did demand,
    "I will not change my Diet, Sir, God help me here I stand!" Oh...

    Duke Frederick took the Wise approach, responding to my words,
    By knighting "George" as hostage in the Kingdom of the Birds.
    Use Brother Martin's model if the languages you seek,
    Stay locked inside a castle with your Hebrew and your Greek! Oh...

    Let's raise our steins and Concord Books while gathered in this place,
    And spread the word that 'catholic' is spelled with lower case;
    The Word remains unfettered when the Spirit gets his chance,
    So come on, Katy, drop your lute, and join us in our dance! Oh...

Awesome song for Reformation Day. I am sharing it with my brother and family. Thanks for posting it here. It was great!

BTW, I began reading some Rushdoony on eschatology. My brother had that book you recommended plus one other smaller booklet. I am reading the shorter book first. Thanks for the recommendations. :)

Great fun. I even found I could remember the tune to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious to sing it to.

(I used to enjoy going in to record shops when 'Mary Poppins' was in the cinemas to ask for that record just to see the glazed look that came over the face of the person behind the counter!)

Thanks for that John...

Don't forget to post the full words to to "Remember. remember the fifth of November", including the bit about Jesuit treason. Speaking of Jesuits, on the first of December you can celebrate the Jesuits that were executed in England. Surely you have a song for that!

I seem to recall that the "Reformation" Monument in Geneva does not have Luther on it.
