    Current mood: chipper
    Current music:for glory (version)

    static....static...
Jenn is leaving to Idaho for a week, and while I'm sad about it, I know this is going to be really good for her writing, and hopefully I can take some time to get some music done.

Well, I've spent the weekend hanging out with Jenn mainly, but we went to Parkin's one night for a good old night of drinking, smoking, just hanging out and having a good time. I didn't drink, cause I was driving, but everyone was soooo drunk; but so happy, it was just sweet as hell. I can't remember a time when everyone was so blissfully fucked. Jenn got sick from taking far too many shots, so we left kinda early, but it was okay. I'd rather her get home safe where she can fall asleep than be wasted in a strange house.

I got my act together on re-mixing this "demo" of ours, and the results are sounding pretty nice. You can hear the newest, and hopefully last mix of "For Glory" pretty soon. I'll post a link on this update. But I'm going to get the 4 other songs perfected and then we'll actually have something decent to use to promote us.

So Skyler where are ya? I don't hear from you any more or anything. It's like you just got up and joined a whole nother life...again. Don't get yourself in anything you may regret. Running backwards normally leaves you to trip... you know of what I speak.

Funny shit is on Myspace... I nearly fall out of my chair in laughter at some of the "bands" on there. It's even funnier when people blantly rip off the names of other musicians.

OH! I'm starting up a new musical project with a whole bunch of guys from other SLC local bands. It's going to be a huge piece industrial metal act. I mean, totally non-serious, but serious at the same time. Like we aren't going to try to take the music anywhere, just play fucking sweet shit. It kinda started from talking about Mushroomhead, and then the concept of NIN's keyboard players. And now we have this full on band being put together. It's going to be sweet, but I have no idea how we are going to fit that many people on a stage *laughs*

2 Guitarists (one of which does keys), Bass Player, Drummer, Keyboardist, Keyboardist/Percussionist, Singer

That's SEVEN people in a band. With up to 3 synths going at once and still having drums, bass and guitar going too. It's going to be wacky. I'm hyped. I figure, Sklyer has his M2G and even then, don't hear from him anymore. I guess it's one of those things where if I need to talk to him, I'll call him. And Matt works all week. So I'm left bored off my ass. At least this band is something I can easily adapt to and will be able to play some wicked shows with. Since some of the members are from other local bands, we have the ability to open at In The Venue! Oh, and we got a guy who does sweet local recordings offering us some free time to make a cd once we got a few songs. Andy Patterson rules. He recorded both Piloit This Plane Down and Day of Less' new stuff. He normally does hardcore bands, but the way he records will be sweet to add the industrial part to it.

Anywho, that's it. I need sleep.

I just seem different. I mean, something seems really disconnected when you hang out with us. I'm not exactly sure what it is dude, but something seems really odd.

As for running backwards, this comment was made towards a little blonde devil. But there's no need for warning, you are well aware.

As for samples, it really depends on what you are looking for. I mean, there are millions of places to get synth sounds and stuff like that. But are you going to be writing melodies out of samples? Or do you just kinda want single-hits? Stuff like voice samples and bass drops? The best tool I've discovered when sampling anything, keep your ears peeled to music you listen to, and always be creative. I mean, Clouser by NIN, that drum beat in the beginning is just an old Iggy Pop song. Find abstract sounds that you might think would work, but use them on tempo's and you'll hear cool things. Like take your car keys and lightly drop them on the table. If you were to capture that sound, and throw in on the downbeat of a beat, it almost would give the sound of dragging change.

This is the fun part of sampling. Being abstract and having fun with it. The only thing else I can suggest is, listen to LOTS of bands that use samples. The new Ministry album is full of them, Skinny Puppy, pretty much anything from the industrial-metal/cold-wave style should do.

:]

hmm.. i want single hits, i have a lot of those already, but id like more.

and im gonna use melodies too, i have two pitch banks on my sampler, only one is full, but i want like 12 notes of bass drops so i can play a melody with them, wouldnt that sound sweet?

and i want to capture a bunch of shit like you said about the keys, like doors slamming, people screaming, maybe capture the sound of one of those people falling from a building and slamming the floor, hahaha(that shouldnt be funny:P)

and this ohGr cd is pretty cool, haha, remember i told you i got it.

Well, just cause I'm a nice guy, I can burn a load of samples to CD for you. But you'll have to go through and pick what you want from them. But just keep in mind, you'll owe me ;)

That's bad ass you are going to do some melodies with your stuff, but trying to do it with a bass drop will sound weird. Mainly because each note you hit will drop and it will sound really processed. Your best having like the downbeat of certian measures, or notes held for say 2 counts being the drops, so you'll have say (drop-note-note-note-note-drop(held)-note-note-note-drop) then you can have some wicked patterns. Also, really learn how to play with the filters man. Cause assigning filters can provide WHOLE new levels of things on samples that might sound lame.

I guess since I'm going to start work on this industrial project (fingers crossed) I can hook you up with some of what I'm doing. I don't work much this week, so your welcomed to come by and check out what you might like. I have some stuff I think you'll appreciate.
