Current music:Don't You Want Me (Mars Plastic Remix) - Felix

    Lovin'...
    ...THIS.

And now I shall take you back to... 1994.

My C&W workmates and I used to go clubbing most Friday nights that spring and summer. We went to some right cattle markets (aah, Utopia), but my favourite at the time was Bojanglez in Guildford because it wasn't quite as poseur-y as some, it played darn good music and we laydeez were allowed in free before 9.30pm. Sweet.

I had also got to know this dude called H in Sales Support and invited him to come along with our little band and dance his socks off. (He did.) My favourite songs back then were choons like The Grid by Swamp Thing, Mr Vain by Culture Beat, Something Good by Utah Saints and Show Me Love by Robin S. (Some of which had been out for a while, but they were still in the clubs for a reason.) The classic Ain't Nobody by Rufus and Chaka Khan would get me on the dance floor even if no-one else was on it. But this remix of Don't You Want Me by Felix used to drive me abso-fucking-lutely insane. I'd be on the huge stage which dominated the dancefloor, gripping the railings and flinging myself all over the place. Note: I was slim and quite happy to show off at the front of the stage in those days. (People who didn't know me would have thought I was on drugs, but that music and a couple of pints of Diet Coke would have me dancing for hours.)

H must have been intrigued, as we started going out that summer. [wink]

Only one thing niggled; I didn't know what mix it was. H did ask the Bojanglez DJ at one point and was told it was the "Clear Plastic Mix", but I never found it. Until yesterday, when I was idly looking at dance tracks on YouTube and found this one. If it's not the same one, it sounds bloody identical. I hunted around for (Mars Plastic Remix) on t'interweb and, after the better part of two decades, I have FOUND IT. It is MINE.

In the spirit of nostalgia, I managed to find and order a whole load of other stuff, including three songs whose titles/artists had eluded me. One was a B-side, for goodness' sake. Called Ease My Pain. And as the original had been borrowed from my sister's ex-boyfriend, retrieval of said CD from that quarter was a no-no. So, the web. Ever tried Googling lyrics like that? I was sure the A-side was a cover of a popular song and the artist's name involved "Rage". Actually, Amazon came to my rescue on that one. Having passed over several hundred results for Rage (hard rock/metal band) and Rage Against The Machine ("Fuck you! I won't do what you tell me to!" To the Macarena. Aaahhhh, Stoke WD party), I suddenly found En-Rage and Run To You. Of... course. One quick check of YouTube later and I recognized the voice of the lead singer. And when I saw the CD cover, I knew it for sure. Eeek!

Another couple I'd been trying to work out for aaages with no lyrics recognized, let alone artist, have finally been identified as Prezioso's Get On Up and Colour Of Love by Reese Project. For some reason, I just managed to ask the right questions of the internet this time, after many searches over the years. And then there were the ones I knew but just hadn't got around to finding. And between YouTube, iTunes, Amazon and a couple of other places, I managed to find them all. The last few are winging their way to me via Royal Mail right now. Happy day!

Of course, I could have asked Dave, but I'm guessing a couple of these might have been a little obscure even for him. Or maybe not. :P

In other news, Sir Derek Jacobi is coming to Collectormania London this November. Well... wow.

To a time where the Internet was a place that nerds gathered to talk about Star Trek... ahem.

Hooray for everything choon-y coming good at one time! That is an awesome happenstance. Nextly, Sir Derek Jacobi?! You may remember him from such sci-fi as Doctor Who and... er...

Hee. Although his foray into genre TV has no doubt increased his attraction for the geeks, Collectormania does do some non-genre signings, such as sports stars. I must confess that I thought he'd end up at something like Autographica (a Showmasters event for the more "classic" TV and movie star), but I'm very glad he hasn't, even if I don't end up seeing him myself!

"Star Trek" was indeed the first thing I ever typed into a search engine.
