Prince2 Courses - A Brief Overview
Prince2 Training is preferred in a wide range of industries, not only in the UK but in other countries as well. The reason for this is that Prince2 is seen as the standard way of project management in businesses of all types.
Prince2 began as an IT-specific project management system. It has its origins around the late 1980s. Despite being initially developed as an exclusive system for managing IT projects, its use soon proliferated to fields beyond information technology. This is because business owners gradually recognized that Prince2 could be implemented for a wider set of applications than what it was initially meant for.
Today, the UK Government uses and recommends it as the industry standard. Prince2 training is therefore invaluable because it instructs an individual in a well-known set of protocols which, while standard and documented, are also flexible and can be adapted to the circumstances of the project in hand.
The main advantage of Prince2 is two-fold. It can be implemented for large and small projects alike.
Sometimes, however, it may be unfeasible to use Prince2 for minor projects, given the high volume of work needed for evaluation processes. Despite this, it still has the flexibility to adapt to any project.
The most recent iteration and changes for Prince2 training occurred in 2009, updating it for the modern business environment, simplifying it and addressing potential weaknesses or areas of misunderstanding in the former version.
Unlike other project management methods, it addresses processes. This gives the project some clarity in the sense that you will be able to know who has what responsibility and how and when the various goals can be achieved.
Prince2 training delivers multiple benefits. The first benefit is the actual project management training. As a project leader you will be in a position to know how to carry out the project in the most efficient way. You will also be taught how to deal with problematic issues in the event that they arise.
Because it is a well-known methodology, it also has the advantage of providing a 'common language' for talking about the project - vital if other companies or agencies are involved.
Because it is popular, it means that it is documented well. That makes the training relatively easy. Although Prince2 is being implemented by industries, training in this revolutionary project management system is now conducted across the globe.
If you have experience in project management, you can study without actually enrolling in a course. In any event, you are still required to write qualifying exams.
Regarding the exams, there is a one hour multiple choice exam which is for the Foundation level. There is also a two and a half hour essay based exam. This one is written for the Practitioner level. The exams are administered by the Association of Project Management (APM).
prince2 training Any organisation which offers Prince2 has to be accredited by the Association of Project Management. This means that the degree of standardisation in the training quality received is very high. Similarly, trainers have to renew their accreditation every three years, and receive yearly checks in the meantime.
Practitioners who gain the necessary qualification on completion of Prince2 training must also be re-accredited once every 5 years. To do so, they are only required to sit for a brief, 1 hour written examination.
