    It's the Little Things
    Poker Update

Yesterday I played another $1 tournament and came in 16th place out of 700 people! Another $5 to my enormous stack of winnings. Course, just now I came in 89th out of 400 but hey - baby steps.

    Political Update

Have I mentioned that I am officially sick and tired of any and all political advertisements on television? As of, say, three months ago. If we're to believe all this crap, then every candidate's opponent is the AntiChrist, which would naturally include the opponent his/herself. I'm at the point now where I may just vote for the people that aren't slamming their opponents on TV.

But then, based on that criteria, I wouldn't be voting this year. And that'll never happen. I firmly believe that everyone eligible must vote. From the month after my 18th birthday - when I was first allowed to vote in the presidential election - I proudly marched myself down to the polls. Haven't missed an election yet and I can't see myself EVER missing one, short of being on my deathbed.

I'm glad to see people that are fired up about the election, don't get me wrong. It's just that I think people who write inflammatory editorial letters to the newspaper...who put VOTE FOR JOE BLOE signs in their front yard...who place tacky bumper stickers on their car (course, I happen to think that all bumper stickers are tacky)...are idiots. Or at the very least way over the top. No one sees a bumper sticker and says, "Hey, they're for John Kerry...you know what? I think they're right. I'm switching my vote! Thank God I saw that sticker!" Frankly, anyone that fickle should have their voter card revoked, anyway.

As for voting a straight party ticket, I don't agree with that, either. Most of the time, in fact, I only vote for the presidential candidates and perhaps senators. The local stuff I usually leave blank because I don't follow local politics and I believe that an ignorant vote is worse than no vote at all. This time around, there are a couple of local offices I'll vote for but only because I'm familiar with the candidates for those offices. And of course I'll vote on the state laws/ammendments.

Today, while playing poker online (where you can chat with the other 9 players at the table), this guy started all this political rhetoric.

Vote 4 Bush! Kerry sucks! He's a liar!

And naturally that spawned numerous retorts from both sides.

    Bush is a monster!

Bush is killing Americans every day!

Kerry will bankrupt the middle class and small businesses!

Sheesh, people. I'm here to play poker. If I want to listen to this crap I can turn on the TV.

Um, listen folks...can't we discuss something less volatile like maybe abortion? I said.

    Point taken.
    Well said.
    Fair enough. Let's play cards.

Thankfully, that was the end of it. Just another few weeks and that'll really be the end of it. For a year or so.
