Hacking up a lung is so much fun.
I had a great vacation in Oregon - saw lots of family, had a wonderful low-key memorial for Dad with his family, went to the coast for a few days, visited my old college campus for the first time in 20 years, and just generally chilled & relaxed. But on the drive home, I felt awful. I was busy sniffling & had a sore throat. I was hoping it was just because I was in an air-conditioned car for 15 hours straight, but it's turned into a full-on cold.

I'm at the uncontrollable coughing combined with miserable headache stage now. I'm woking on about 4 hours of sleep, since the coughing kept waking me up & the headache wouldn't let me go back to sleep. On Saturday night (got home Saturday), I took my favorite cold medicine, Nyquil, right before bed so I could sleep through the night. But after I took it, I happened to glance at the package & I noticed that one of the warnings was the following "Consult a physician before taking if you have (list of various things including..) glaucoma."

Great... well I wasn't about to stick a finger down my throat to try and regurgitate the Nyquil I'd already swallowed, but I haven't taken any cold medication (except throat lozenges) since reading that. I do have some that doesn't have a glaucoma warning, but I figure I shouldn't take any chances. My eyesight is shitty enough when I have a cold as it is... don't need to go compounding things ;-).

Cassy, I'm so sorry about your dad. I just looked back at your posts, and I missed your entry about his passing.

I hope you feel better soon.

Oh, how rotten! It's bad enough having a cold WITH drugs, let alone without. I hope you feel better soon.

That's definitely the sort of thing you can just phone your doctor about. I doubt you'd need an appointment to just say, "Hey, is this Nyquil going to make me go blind?" What I'm not sure of is whether you'd want to call your physician or your eye doctor--probably the latter.

Awww...twinnie, I'm sorry you feel so crappy. I hope you find something else you can take. I can't take most cold meds when I'm working because most of the ones that don't make me drowsy, just don't work. I usually take echinecea to boost my immunity, garlic to flush toxin and goldenseal to dry up mucus membranes. I'm not sure how well those would work for you since it sounds like you're already in the grasp of a full-blown cold and the mixture I take is usually to ward off a cold when I first start coming down with it before it can really get its hooks in me. Another thing I find helpful is Hot Damn Cinnamon Schnapps. I sip it from a juice glass and it actually coats my throat and makes me feel a bit better....or maybe just drunk but either way, I feel better.

If the other medicine doesn't have the glaucoma warning, take it. You aren't risking anything with that, because they're super cautious about such things. I hope you feel better soon.
