Pimpin', Pumpin'
.::UPDATES::.
24 July, Saturday
Today couldn't be more perfect. After having my brother's cellie fixed, we went to Kenny Rogers Megamall to have lunch with Anne. After that, we got some dog shampoo at Animal House for Poochie. My brother went off to watch a movie with his girlfriend at Shang so Anne and I walked around a bit. It's been some time since I've strolled the corridors of Megamall. I'm not really a big fan of the mall --- it's too big, too unexciting, too crowded, and don't get me started on the restrooms. So anyway, I said what the heck since we were there already. Celine was on sale! There was this pair of boots that I liked but Anne discouraged me from buying it. Hell, maybe I'll come back for it next week. She bought a long-sleeved blouse with a bit of embroidery and beadwork, then we transferred to Galleria. We had a good cardio workout there, what with all the milling around we had to do. She bought another long-sleeved blouse in red (with cutesy flower prints on it) and a pair of earrings. Meanwhile I got two pairs of earrings AND two pairs of pumps! One in plain, no frills black, heels an inch and a half. The other one is chocolate brown, in faux alligator leather pattern with thin, but-not-quite-stiletto, 2 and a half inch heels. We left Galleria at the onset of heavy rains, two happy, happy girls. We transferred to Shang and hooked up with my brother. Got some toiletries at Beauty Bar. We also went looking for some blouses for me but there was nothing I fancied so I settled with my loot. We had dinner, then my brother left ahead for home. Anne and I spent the rest of the evening at Dome. Purr-fect.
Since last week, I've been thinking of buying pumps. Just plain, no frills, black or chocolate brown pumps with heels at about one and a half to three inches tall. You see, I'm never one to wear pumps. I am the boots, loafers, wedge slip-ons, running shoes kind of girl. Pumps just don't do it for me. Even when Charlotte made a roaring thing out of them pumps, I did not jump into the bandwagon. But last week, I accidentally unearthed pictures of me when I was about 4 or 5 years old. In the picture, I was playing around, trying to imitate my Mom. I was wearing a pink party dress (which was really mine), a string of pearls on my neck, my Mother's black high-heeled pumps, her lipstick smeared on my lips (and chin, hehe), and her Gucci handbag donned on my arm. Needless to say, I looked like a drunken hoochie momma from the 'hood. Hyukhyukhyuk. I'd post the pic here but I'd still like to preserve what little respect my friends have left for me. And yes, that means, no. So anyway, as a little girl, I always thought that the time for me to wear shoes like my Mom's will come. I imagined wearing it as soon as I begin working for a living. Well, I have graduated from college, and have been earning my own money for some time. I've also collected an assortment of lipsticks, lip tints, and lip glosses. I have a passsable string of pearls which I rarely wear. I don't have a Gucci bag but I have a LV (nope, I didn't buy it, still can't afford it. It was given to me as a gift by my Mom, yes, I'm poor like that.). But I still didn't feel like it was right to get a pair of pumps. I guess that for me, wearing pumps was symbolic for something else. It's like I'm accepting the truth that give or take a couple of years I will no longer be classified as someone in her early 20's, which equates to a slight modification and realignment of priorities. Maybe that is how young boys deal with it when they finally feel that, circumcision aside, they have become a Man. For me, part of it was getting chummies with pumps. Part of it. Well, at least, I'm off to a start.
