    Terri Schiavo (LJ crosspost)
For those of you who don't already despise Florida's govenrment, the state legislature and our lovely governer (Jeb!) have decided to step in and reinsert her feeding tube. This woman's life essentially ended 13 years ago, and her parents have constantly battled her husband (who seems to be the only person with a brain involved in this outside of the judge) to keep her stuck in bed drooling at the ceiling. Now the morons who run Florida step in at the last second to prevent this disaster from finally ending. I'm almost tempted to go kill her myself and take out her parents and the legislature with her.

The husband should have more rights than the parents.

And I wonder who is paying for all of her care?

I haven't really seen much about that, but I know there was a trust fund set up. The last mention I saw of it was a year ago and there was $700,000 left in it. I'm sure that's long gone considering her needs.

I am sure. That kind of care is very expensive.

My mother and I just had a huge discussion on this. She is sub-delusional [my word leave it be! ;)] and tried to state ‘stranger things have happened’? I kindly informed her if I was ever in that state for that long, she better pull the feeding tube. If not and by MAGIC I ended up getting out that bed alive, I'd promptly do something to force her to be in that bed, just like that for 13 years herself. Stated a lot of my beliefs on this in chat, but I do have to say this.... When legislation comes in and dictates to us exactly what we can and cannot do with our own lives it is worse than a sad state of the world. To have to fight a DNR is one thing when the family is fighting for it, but to have to fight a DNR amongst a family where only one of them is sane, big dichotomy.

This is when they actually pull the humanity out of the right for the people’s life and pull out a big roll of red tape and cameras to try to start a political, ethical, and moral battle of wits. Cock fight to the rights through bible and state, I find it absolutely appalling that so many people have stood by and found it to be a good choice, or even let it get to that point. When will it end? I have a right to die and I want the assurance that if something like that happened to me my mother would be able to step in and rightfully say “She would not want to live like that, pull the plug”. If some charlatan gets a bug up their arse then I could be forced to live that way till the machines malfunctioned or I was a one hundred and ninety two year old lab freak finally puttering out. Golden lung, or golden gates is not really a choice one has to make at all, there is no question clouds beneath my feet would be much better than never feeling anything again. That is not living in any way shape or form, and I’m shocked that people could tell these poor parents there is a good chance if any at all. Everyone that loses someone knows there is a fantasy that they will come back or if there were any chance at life you would go to the ends of earth to try them. She’s been thirteen years gone and yet they are siphoned this fantasy in a bottle from even someone as high as good ole Jeb. It is not that I think they are immoral I think the people that they think are looking out for them and their daughter are molesting them.

It is a sad state of affairs very, very sad.

Yeah, there's nothing I can add to that. :)

I think it's disgusting that they are removing and reinserting her feeding tube. She's not a toy to be fought over but a woman who should be allowed to die with dignity.

I think this is the first time they've actually gotten to pulling it out, but yeah, disgusting is a good word for it.
