KURT COBAIN Biopic In The Works - Apr. 16, 2004

The WB Network is developing an original movie about late NIRVANA frontman Kurt Cobain, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The network has obtained the rights to Charles Cross' 2001 book "Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain". Robert Munic ("They Call Me Sir") has been commissioned to write the script for the untitled film, which could get a primetime berth as early as next season.

"The day Kurt Cobain died was the day the music died for a generation," said Tana Nugent Jamieson, senior VP of the WB's new longform original programming unit. "His story is perfect for our audience."

No casting or director is attached.

The film will trace Cobain's life from his troubled youth near Seattle to his pioneering role in the emergence of the grunge music genre as the lead singer and guitarist of NIRVANA.

Somehow, you know if the WB's behind it, they'll screw it up. Why can't they just leave it alone? Or let someone good do it.

I'm with you. I don't like the idea of a Cobain movie because 1- it'll make him look like this psycho-junkie freak that wanted only death then along comes "saviour courtney" whom he worshiped and had a picture perfect marriage with (hah) and 2- it'll bring even MORE 13 year old teenyboppers in to nirvana comms that worship kurt AND don't know the whole story. If it was on a more respectable network and not the WB I'd be less angered.

Ugh... I've actually thought about when a movie will be made about him -- but I think it's too soon. Sure, he's already a legend and our generation's main icon, but let his legacy grow before making a pointless TV movie on a book only three years old. And when/if it's made, an experienced/respected director/writer with much credibility to his or her name should be the one to do it -- and not some novice or some money-hungry ponce who's trying to cash in on Cobain's fans.

That's just my opinion...

I'm with you. I'm dreading how Kurt will be portrayed (probably the way he was in that accursed book) he WASN'T this self loathing junkie that wanted only death and tried everything in his power to end his life. He was NOT suicidal and ARGH just THINKING about that fricken book makes me infuriated. Media bullshit and lies.
Also it's on the WB for chrissakes! The kind of audience that watches the WB is the exact group that makes Nirvana communities miserable.

Charels Cross is so on my hit list.
