Discovering what's in you for you
I had an interesting conversation with a colleague on Thurs over lunch.

It started with saying grace, in which she did with a Buddhist slant - visualising the food feeding Buddha (in her), and the food nourishing her such that she can do more good, and thanking the people and Buddha for the food. Which is basically saying grace. Anyhow, she was amazed at the speed I did my grace, so I explained what went on in the little grace - thanking God for the food, asking Him to bless the food and the fellowship ahead. But I digress.

The highlight of the conversation was hearing how she discovered she's a closeted Buddhist, despite the Christian influence at a young age. Pretty interesting, esp how it weaved into her career outlook - where she desires to do something good to humanity (ok, this is the part where it starts sounding like Ms Wong).

To the extent of becoming a nun. That's funny, because she'll actually look quite good in the nun uniform, after which she said I'll look good in that tudung Catholic nun uniform (ok apologies to Catholics here).

The trend these days is to try out 1 or 2 jobs that are related to your skills, and then ponder where you want to develop from there - the exploratory phase - where you discover who you are and what you want to do.

    For me?

Anyway, I went to a wedding dinner (my 35-yr-old cousin finally got married - he's one of my fav cousins because his toys are always very happening) earlier, and there I met his nieces, 2 of whom are Sec 4, and just finished their O'levels.

I asked them what they want to be when they grow up. One wanted to be a nutritionist - the other wanted to be a pathologist - but when I told her she needs to go get a Medicine degree first, she said she's too stupid for that. *Lol* What makes her think that pathologists are stupid people?

It's always interesting to ask kids what their dreams are, and sit back and watch what they'll become a few years down the road.

    Yeah. I'm ageing.
