time apart
the time for self-reflection,
the time to settle down,
the time to clear my cluttered mind
without someone around.

the time to just feel free,
the time to just be candid
somehow escaped from me;
it was time i took for granted.

and now i know i need it,
and now i know it's lost.
and as i try to retrieve it,
i know i'll pay the cost.

because it means i lose you,
and when i'm ready,
you may be gone.
it's a chance i need to take,
because i can't keep you hanging on --
waiting for me to wake up,
and tell you i've been wrong
for treating you the way i do.
i need time away
to appreciate you.
