Letter #6: On Death and On-line Friendships
When conversing with people online, it's far too easy to hurt or be hurt without realizing the weight of words. When you can't see the other person's face, nor sense the silences and pauses that make the subtleties of communication, it's too easy to cross the line.
In the end, they're only words. But words are what make us human.
You can't take back what you've said, but you can-- and should-- always try to make up for your misspoken words.
There comes a point when it's too late for apologies. So before you reach that point...
Gather up your courage. Put aside your pride. Treat your fellow man with respect and humility, so that your final good-bye will be untainted by selfish regret.
