Hello, my fault for mentioning the stuff I suppose...
"Why doesn't cannabis have much effect on me?"

That is a hard question isn't it? Cannabis, usually from the cannabis sativa plant, although many cross breeds with the indicia variety are now available, is a potent version of the hemp plant, used for making linen, ropes, soap, bio-fuel etc etc etc... There are many psychoactive compounds in it, the most well known and pokey being THC (Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol) this is the one that makes you feel high. It is absorbed into the bloodstream through the lining of the lungs if smoked, or through the gut if ingested. It is then carried up to the brain where it does it's stuff.
The effects of cannabis vary from person to person, even if the same batch is being used. These include your weight, size, metabolic rate, and your mood before smoking. It can also effect different people in different ways. Cannabis can make the user feel euphoric, relaxed, less inhibited, or quiet and reflective, or sleepy. It can effect you perception, increasing awareness of colour or sound. It does bad stuff too, like affecting your memory and ability to think. You can also become convinced that you're having the best ideas EVER whereas you're probably just scribbling incoherently in your notebook. THC can also decrease your resistance to infections such as herpes. So, again, swings and roundabouts there.
Well, as you can probably gather from that convoluted rough association of letters, it rather depends who you are. Unfortunately research into the recreational effects of cannabis are rare, the most famous probably being the alleged creation of the G-13 strain by the US government to use as some kind of weapon. I should think that your increased tolerance comes from a difference in your neuro-chemical balance as compared to the rest of us. We all have natural cannabinoid receptors in our brains (obviously or it would be pointless smoking the stuff) and we actually produce our own version of the drug. Maybe you're producing too many of these normally, thus binding up all your receptors and not letting any of the THC get to you?
Let's have a look inside your head...
