![]() Over the past few weeks I am fairly certain that I have consumed my body-weight in pizza. And burgers and fries too because what's a burger without fries? And so the stomach has started craving salad and fruit, curling up at the thought of cupcakes. But yesterday proof that I was on the mend.. I made waffles, not any waffles but penguin shaped ones. Cinnamon penguin shaped waffles! And I made icecream too - roasted honey almond, maple syrup and vanilla bean icecream which had a ridiculous amount of crunch to it. I got to go to Queensland over the weekend, for the opening of the Icon Creative Summit which my boyfriend was showing work in. The weirdest thing was having people stare at a picture of me... it was cool but odd at the same time. ![]() So Queensland turns out to be much more laid back than Sydney - a welcome change - with nicer more considerate architecture, but no where near the over-planned nature our nation's capital. We spent a lot of time in this place called New Farm (everything sounded a bit like a Super Mario level.. Fortitude Valley and the like) where we discovered this incredible park, complete with mushrooms or yuggles as I used to call them as a child. It was idyllic and green and relaxing until we realised that I was allergic to some of the grass! The highlight was definitely a trip to the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) which was showing an exhibition titled 'Optimism'. The title made us shudder a little, especially in this global financial crisis that we're in where everyone keeps telling us how important it is to be optimistic. But the show was delightful and hilarious and relaxing. We lay on red furry carpet in a room dedicated to the Carpenters, watching this video installation and listening to their records and ran towards life-sized furry white trees in a Dr Seuss like forest. The trees were a giggle to pat for everyone. This week marks my first week as a real writer type person. I quit my retail job last week (HURRAH!) and officially work as a writer. Some days I'm in a newsroom, which I love and other days I'm freelancing, which sounds appealing with the freedom but I'm finding it difficult to go a day without napping... I've actually spent most of the week getting ready for a group art show I'm in next week!! The Matchbox project is going to be shown, so I'm crazy busy packing tiny treats to scatter around the gallery, alongside my bigger photographic work. Here's the flyer! If you're around, please come!! ![]() xx Post a comment in response: |
