sparring
Today is my weekly fights...thats right, you heard correctly, everyweek I spend one hour fighting people who constantly train for to spar. Sparring or as I call it Kumite is the sport from karate where one dawns padded gear thats about an inch thick on one's fists, feet, and head. Though I do not wear them, some wear shin guards. Also required is a groin cup and a mouth guard. For those whom hit harder than most, such as myself, I wear gear with an extra inch of padding...this is one of my favorite sports I can think of. In a tournament fight (such as the one I'm going into for for Febuary) two fighters enter a ring and are wurrounded by four judges, one in each corner, and then a fifth master judge from the front to watch over the fight. first one to reach 5 points, or the one with the most points in 2 minutes wins. points can be made from hitting the head, stomack, back, and yes...the groin...ouch. This competition for the division I am in is quite a challenge indeed but last year I managed to pull first place barely by one point. Every tuesday night, from 6-7 at The Okinawan Shorin Ryu karate school on the corner of Us1 and Port Malabar in the Dollar General Plaza is sparring night. All are welcome to come and watch anytime, however, I ask for any who do wish to show up to be respectful be silent, watch and learn. Most whom come to watch karate show at least some interest in the style, so I ask to please respect the dojo and come only if you are truely interested. At the tournament on Febuary 8th sunday, there is a tournament at The Holiday Inn Oceanfront Resort at 1300 North Atlantic Ave. Cocoa Beach, FL. from 12:30-6:00...You can bet you happy donkeys I'm gonna be there so I'd appreciate the support. I hope sparring is tough tonight...I'm up for a good brawl. SOme homework tonight but I'm still lookin to go somewhere and do something tonight...so if you're board give me a ring around 8:30...I'll be free about 99% of the time. heheh. Good day to all.
