Because the break room TV only gets four channels.
I've had a lot on my mind lately... And typing it here, unfortunately, won't help matters much.
So instead of dwelling on all that I want to say, but can't, for various reasons... I'm going to distract myself as I did at work today - sitting in the break room trying to make a top-ten list of fictional rabbits. (Yes, this was an actual break room conversation, and I don't remember how the hell we got on it in the first place... but it was hilarious, and here are our results!)
10. Lola Bunny Invented as a counterpart to Bugs Bunny for the Space Jam movie, Lola made the cut, but just barely. I pointed out that she had a repeat performance in the 'Baby Looney Tunes' series, and was then forced to admit that while everyone else grew up on the real thing, I got to grow up on all the bad spinoffs. Trade the Muppet Show for Muppet Babies... just not the same. That, and we couldn't think of any rabbits among the Muppets.
9. Rabbit (from Winnie the Pooh) Granted, the name is a few steps lower than naming a pair of kangaroos, 'Kanga' and 'Roo,' and I had quite a time trying to convince a co-worker that Eeyore was the donkey and not the rabbit, even though they both had long ears... but he still deserved a spot on the list.
8. Peter Rabbit I couldn't remember the name, but I remembered that there was a book series by Beatrix Potter, and that it involved a rabbit, and something about a garden. According to wikipedia, the books have been published in over 35 languages. So this is clearly a rabbit deserving of much credit.
7. The Hare (from the Tortoise and the Hare) Everyone, no matter their age, ethnicity or knowledge of fictional rabbits, knew this famous children's tale. It's been made into movies and incorporated into so many TV shows. It's just... classic.
6. Usagi Yojimbo Because Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles just plain rocks. And I still have the Usagi action figure! Though, technically, he wasn't actually a part of Ninja Turtles. He had a storyline all his own in a comic book series. Those were really just crossover episodes.
5. Peter Cottontail And by extension, we also believed this covered any representation of the classic 'Easter Bunny' figure. And I was so very close to bursting into song: Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail. Hippity hoppity, Easter's on its way!
4. The White Rabbit As soon as we mentioned this name, one of the business development people added, 'I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date!' Yeah, the March Hare was in 'Through the Looking Glass' as well, but just like a door mouse in a teacup, he's easily overlooked.
3. Roger Rabbit Of course, other people thought that Jessica Rabbit should be on this list, because even though she isn't a rabbit, it just fits. We thought the same thing about the Playboy Bunnies. But, to quote a co-worker, "at least the Playboy Bunnies have long ears and little cotton tails on their asses."
2. Thumper Bambi was such a classic tear-jerking movie, we had to put Thumper second on the list. No one could deny the 'twitterpation.'
1. Bugs Bunny. What's up Doc? In terms of sheer popularity and comical value, my coworkers and I decided that there was clearly no rabbit better suited to top this list than good old Bugs. He won an Academy Award, was nominated for three others, and is synonymous with all things so perfectly long-eared.
Honorable Mention Bunnies: Babs and Buster Bunny from Tiny Toon Adventures (This was nixed on the grounds that watered-down spin off shows that were spoonfed to my generation didn't count.) Buster Bunny from Arthur (This one was nixed because it was never brought up. Because I didn't want to admit to a bunch of grown adults that I have, and sometimes still do, watch Arthur on PBS) Playboy Bunnies (They're not real bunnies. Sorry...)
Current Lips: gold, orange and black gradient blend
