OT, but worth mentioning
In my college-level grammar class, we occasionally get passed bits of snark from the professional writing world. The following comes from the results of this year's Louise Bulwer-Lytton Contest, which is run by the English department of San Jose State University and is basically a contest in which participants write the first line of a bad novel.
All I could think when I read this one (it was #8 in the top ten) was MARY SUE!
With a curvaceous figure that Venus would have envied, a tanned, unblemished oval face framed with lustrous thick brown hair, deep azure-blue eyes fringed with long black lashes, perfect teeth that vied for competition, and a small straight nose, Marilee had a beauty that defied description.
Okay... so it's grammatically correct, which is more than most MS writers can handle.. but STILL...
