Well, it was quite a welcoming. Kura and I wandered around for a little while after arriving here at MidNight High. I checked out the library, and it's true that their collection here rivals that of Central. I just wish I could show Taisa, to make him stop bragging. Well, about that, anyway.

Not long after we got here, an alarm went off, so I went to see what was going on. Apparently, the students and faculty here are "on call" to handle any problem that's too much for the local public safety, and we got a call. Kura and I went along to the airport where a kid named Sunspot was causing some trouble.

We were fighting him, holding our own, I thought, when all of a sudden, Kenji goes in for the kill. From where I was, it looked like Kenji had stabbed him in the neck, but it was only his jaw. Still, it bled pretty bad, and needless to say, that ended the fight.

But it didn't seem like I thought it would. I thought it would feel good, like we'd just defeated a dangerous villain and saved innocent lives. But it didn't feel like that at all. He was just a kid, and he was crying. Kenji had hurt him bad. Then I started thinking, maybe it was overkill. Maybe we were all so eager to try out our skills, we didn't think that maybe this could have been handled another way. When I saw him laying there and sobbing after it was over, I felt... wrong. It was almost physical, like something was tugging at my heart. I tried to heal him as best I could, but all I could do was try to ease the pain a little, his wounds were too bad.

Where's the line? When do we go to all lengths to defeat someone who's a threat, and when do we slow down and see the real person inside the villain? I guess that's one of the things I want to learn here.

And speaking of learning, I need to get back to the library. Time to start making use of this alchemy collection.
