Pressed between the pages of the journal are a few sheets of paper, stacked neatly and folded in half. The front of this work-in-progress bears a handwritten title, scrawled in blue ink:

    "Our Story"

    Written by Faith

Being a teenager is never easy. Especially when you discover that you have supernatural abilities.

Take it from me. My life is about as "supernatural" as they come. In fact, it all began right around the time I turned thirteen.

I was a normal kid, living in a normal house, with two normal parents and three normal (if annoying) little brothers, going to a normal school and hanging out with normal friends. One normal day, I turned on the TV to a normal TV show called "Digimon." I liked this show. I liked it a lot. In fact, you could probably even call it an obsession. Little did I know that this perfectly normal obsession was the beginning of the end of my normalcy.

I never did figure out quite how it happened. All I know is, I was sitting on the couch watching an episode of Digimon (it was "The Crest of Friendship," one of my favorites), and all of a sudden, I was there. No flashing lights, no world spinning, nothing you'd associate with being pulled into another dimension. Just, blink, and I'm no longer in my living room.

I entered the digital world as the Digidestined of Faith just after the fall of Devimon to the Digidestined. Together, we hunted down, fought, and defeated Etemon, Myotismon, and the Dark Masters. I don't know if my friends were ever confronted by Apocalymon. For all I know, they're still in the digital world, fighting valiantly to defend it from those who would seek to taint its purity.

The defeat of Piedmon, last of the Dark Masters, and the resulting collapse of Spiral Mountain caused a rift to form in space-time, a freak occurance. I was pulled into that rift, along with my partner, a Pokemon-Digimon hybrid who's a combination of the Pikachu and Gryphonmon lines. Because he was mainly composed of data, my partner could survive inside the rift between worlds. Because I am human, I could not.

He sacrificed his life to save mine in that rift. We became bonded, flesh-and-blood to computer data, and he saved me from the dimensional hole that would have torn my physical, organic body apart.

Although I can no longer feel his spirit with me, he left me one last gift. Appropriate, perhaps, since his greatest desire was always to protect me. I now bear the electricity-producing sacs of Pikachu embedded in the palms of my hands, as well as the wings of Gryphonmon on my back.

I emerged from the rift to find myself home again. And in the five years since, I have been training, honing the abilities that my partner left to me. Maybe one day I'll find a way back to the friends I've lost. And maybe, just maybe, if I can return to the digital world, the data within me will once again take a physical form, to be as always ever watchful at my side.

    And then I met Kura.
