Dermabrasion is a process where a person’s skin is actually planed to even the skin tone. This is done many times by first freezing the skin that the procedure will be affecting then the skin is essentially sanded away. This is done by using a diamond wheel or wire brush. A person can have this done on many parts of his or her body, but it is generally done to the face. Everyone would like the fresh-faced look of youthful glowing skin but very few people have such perfect skin. Even if one is lucky enough to have great skin naturally, there are many factors like sun exposure, aging, smoking that take the freshness and glow off the skin. The method used in dermabrasion is controlled surgical scraping. By means of abrasion using a special instrument, superficial skin is removed and irregularities improved. The greater the area of skin that needs to be treated, the longer would be the time required for the procedure. That means dermabrasion might take just a couple of minutes or it might take close to two hours. Dermabrasion is used for improving the appearance of skin by reducing the appearance of acne scars and fine lines (mainly around the mouth ). It can also to a lesser extent be used to treat other scars and wrinkles. The dermabrasion procedure essentially sands away a person’s skin so that new, healthy skin can grow in its place. In dermabrasion, an antiseptic is first used to clean the affected region. This is followed by the application of a unique spray on the skin to freeze it. The skin is then abraded using a speedy rotary instrument having a brush or abrasive wheel. A superficial wound is created, outer skin layers are removed, and skin surface irregularities are made better. The wound is made in such a way as to not only get rid of the scar but also to enable the development of fresh skin in the normal way. Points to be Considered Before considering a dermabrasion procedure, certain points need to be discussed between the patient and the surgeon. These include: • The patient’s expectations • Whether or not the treatment would suit the patient’s skin • Any medication the patient would have to avoid ahead of the surgery • The patient’s medical history and age • Possible side effects First, the skin is cleansed with antiseptic agent. Many surgeons freeze the skin with ice packs or a spray that freezes the skin. The surgeon then uses a hand-held high speed rotating dermabrasion machine -- about the size of a pencil -- with a small cone of sandpaper or a stiff brush on its end. That instrument sands down the outer layer of the old skin and leaves a scab which remains on the face for about a week. As the scab peels off, new skin appears to reveal its natural radiance and luminosity, reducing fine lines and rejuvenating your complexion quickly and without discomfort. Dermabrasion has several benefits. It evens out the skin's surface that has become dry and cracked as a result of too much exposure to the sun or due to aging factors by stimulating the connective tissues. It eliminates the dull and faded appearance of the skin and boosts cell regeneration by increasing blood flow and oxygenation. It removes the wrinkles that appear due to repeated muscle contraction, such as the ones around the mouth and eyes. It reduces acne scars and opens blocked pores. It reduces the difference in the distribution of pigmentation and reduces scars marks. Read About Hair Care also Read about Dermabrasion and Surgical Diathermy Post a comment in response: |
