The Grad Ball: The Last Dance
My entry about the Grad Ball, typed from a notebook.

At first I felt that going to this... replay of what happened at the Prom was a stupid decision to make. I didn't have a date since the girl I wanted to ask was madly in love with someone else, not to mention that I didn't have her number and she made me... confused in a mushy sort of way. but the rentals have been made, the invites have been distributed, the promises have been forged (I promised to go).

I didn't realize that it was already 5:45 in the afternoon. I took out my suit and basically everything I needed for the ball. Kept running around looking for a necktie, took a lot of time in the bathroom and dressed up. We left at around 6:30.

Traffic wasn't that bad and within thirty minutes, I reached the venue, the NBC tent at The Fort at around 7. Stepping out of the car, I put on my coat, sighed, and walked inside, not knowing what to expect.

Registered, found my seat. Basically I remained silent for a while. One by one, the couples filled the empty seats. Friends found time to greet each other, while the stags laughed and enjoyed each other's company. Food was served. Me, Jake and Mikostayed at our seats for a while, anticipation that the lines would shorten soon. When it did not, we stood up and went to the nearest buffet table. Some bands from the high school played. After getting second servings (I wanted to get my money's worth since I didn't have a date), the last band finished and it was time to view the class videos. We laughed our lungs out when our video was played (I looked stupid in the video) and when our moderator spoke in the teachers' comments/wishes for the graduating batch played.

After the class videos and the teachers' farewell greetings, the featured band played. The couples went to the dance floor to dance and be all mushy lovey-dovey and that kinda shit. Well, not all of them, of course. After the band played, music played on and soon almost everyone was dancing.

Wasn't really that lonely there. I had Jake and Miko and the other stags to talk with. Most of the people with dates did not acknowledge my prescence. Hehe. Whatever happened to "My Friends Over You," Cid? Maybe it wasn't so lonely since I had a digicam to fiddle around with. Oh well, we had an all-stag picture taken. Hehe.

I went out of the tent at about 11:30 or so. My parents were there, ordering food. In the car ride home, I asked myself a lot of rhetorical questions. Like "If I asked for her number, would she have been sitting beside me in the ball?" "Would I ever see her again?" "Do I love her, or am I just infatuated?" "Are people leaving me behind?" "Is it best to continue living like this?" "Is the perfect girl a mere figment of my imagination?" And all sorts of thoughts and questions.

I went home, half-disappointed, half-satisfied, thoughts in my head, pictures in my camera, lots of points to ponder, lots of thoughts and tears I wanted to get rid of, but it didn't happen.

I looked good in a suit though. Even in my narcissistic standards.

After all the prayers, wishes, hopes... The Last Dance went by, and I didn't have anyone to dance with. *Sigh*... All that hope, wasted on a foolish dream.

It's time to sleep and shed tears while dreaming of the impossible...
