    second flight
tonight will be my second flight. my instructor called last night to talk about what we'd be working on. first and foremost, pedals. given my horrifyingly drunk-style weaving, i'd say this is a very good idea. he seems to think that by getting down under the dash and making me work the pedals with my hands and get a good look at how they're built and how they move and what they do, i will more easily be able to get the right results with my feet. and then there's the radio. he emailed me ksql's ATIS call-in number so i could get some practice listening and noting the numbers down. it still sounds like greek to me, but it has definitely helped. he also emailed me a script of sample radio calls. again, really helpful. i so appreciate the way he puts his mind around a problem to find just the right solution for my particular weaknesses.

also on the schedule: slides, more steep bank turns (hopefully this time without the gs i pulled from dropping the nose), stability exercises, hopefully more landings and best of all, he's going to let me go under the hood. man i can't wait for that. i almost wish i could get my instrument rating first. i'm all about those dials.

yes, i know it's probably not normal to be doing the hood on the second flight any more than landings on the first, but i seem to have had straight and level flight and turns and take-offs since before i ever got in a plane. weird. like i've been flying my whole life. like my hands and eyes and mind already know what to do (damn the feet for not keeping up). i'm guessing my biggest hurdles are going to be psychological. the fears. the phobias. being in the air, talking to strangers on the radio, navigating unknown territories... the machine is pretty much mine. just have to remember the steps.
