if it's not perfect I'll perfect it 'til my heart explodes
I heart Randy. And there's lots of him in this entry.

Kind of a long day today. I met with Randy after my math class for what I thought was just another coaching session. Not so. He ambushed me. He had me come to his office and as I was setting my bag down, he said, "So. What are you going to do with your life?" I thought he was joking, but he was totally serious. He talked with me about the whole major/minor stuff, which I've really been stressing about and it's relation to the family studies major/minor thing, as well my resume, portfolio and headshots, as well as other things like my family and living in the city vs. going back to a small town. When I talked about the family studies thing, he asked, "Is that the realistic side of Kate talking?" I admitted it was. "I haven't decided whether or not I want to be realistic yet." He laughed. "Don't be realistic yet. You have years and years for that."

And, as weird as this sounds, that inspired a sort of bravery in me. I trust Randy and if he didn't think I was at least competent enough to get some work after college, he would advise me differently. It makes me scared and thrilled at the same time.

Even though he caught me completely off guard, I really appreciate him taking the time to talk to me about this kind of stuff. He's not my advisor and it's not at all his responsibility, but it was really, really helpful and put me at ease. Not to mention changed my mind about dropping my major to a minor and about seriously pursuing some kind of theatrical career after college. So yay Randy! Besides planning my life, we also did do some character work (he continues to point out my ticks. Today it was a breathing habit I have) and offered me the option of doing all the research-y stuff for Trojan Women (I have dazzled him with my amazing wealth of nerdy knowledge on Greek mythology) which fills me with Geeky joy.

I saw lots of Randy today, actually. After my coaching session, I had a production meeting with him, then script analysis (where he had me read Medea's more famous speech, he's trying to convey the sort of passion he want me to have with Inez and has been using a lots of Greek imagry) in the amphitheatre, which is outside obviously. It was a nice change of pace and we spent our little break watching Randy and some of the guys practice walking on their hands and cartwheels. After that, I had dance with Randy, where we did tap. Tap is waaaaaay easier now that it was last semester, but I still zone out. While we were practicing shuffles, I realized Randy was watching my vacant face in the mirror. He smiled and winked at me and I tried to shake off my stupor.

After that, it was rehearsal with Randy, which went well, except I was so tired. I think that almost made me better in a few places, more callous.

After that, I stopped by the STAGE cookout which was just getting going before heading off with Eric to pick up his suit and shop for a shirt and tie. We were helped by an older lady who I think found us very annoying. But now he's all shopped for. Hopefully Randy likes the suit, 'cause it was altered to fit Eric and getting a different one would be tiresome. We returned to the cookout where we had to share a hotdog bun and did a little mingling before I went off with Brenna and Trina to watch Fever Pitch, which was cute.

And now I'm tired and wishing I could just put tomorrow on pause, but alas, it comes. So to bed.
