Varicose veins are one of the few conditions that have both medical and psychological implications. Varicose veins, also known as spider veins, usually occur as a result of faulty valves or other problems within a vein that impede the normal flow of blood. This cause blood to pool in the vein making it enlarged, twisted and visible. Though it can occur in any part of the body, it is most commonly found in the back of the lower part of the leg. For well over 60 sixty years natural treatment with bioflavoniods has shown it has the ability to improve venous health, including varicose vein and bruises. OPCs (Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins) have been known to help repair some varicose veins, and reduce the occurrence of new varicose veins. OPCs have the ability to strengthen capillaries, the body's smallest blood vessels. The symptoms of varicose vein are not common in everybody. It also does not happen that every body suffers from these symptoms. Here is a look at those varicose veins symptoms: The blood veins will enlarge abnormally and look as if there are some lumps under the skin. These veins will look entangled and twisted and therefore very ugly and frightening. Treatment: 1. The procedure called Sclerotherapy uses a liquid chemical to close off the vein, via injection. The process needs to be repeated every 4 to 6 weeks. Following treatments, legs are wrapped elastic bandages to decrease swelling and promote healing. 2. Believe it or not, pineapples also contain a natural chemical that treats varicose veins. The chemical, called bromelain, reduces the swelling and soreness that are caused by varicose veins. Bromelain can be taken in capsule form. 3. Onions, apples, and black tea have also been found to help varicose vein problems. These foods have a chemical called quercetin, which is an anti-inflammatory. Quercetin also comes in capsule form. It should be taken together with bromelain for optimum effectiveness. 4. One of the best methods to prevent and cure spider veins is to refrain from standing still for a long time in in place. When standing still, blood can pool in the veins of the legs, and the blood doesn't have the benefit of muscular movement to help push it back towards the heart. 5. An extract made from the Japanese pagoda tree is one of the better known herbal supplements for spider veins, having been in use since the sixties. The extract is known to have good results in increasing the strength and flexibility of veins while reducing inflammation. This extract has also been demonstrated to reduce the pooling of blood in the legs and improve circulation. 6. The herb Marigold is of great value for treating varicose veins. External application of flowers of this plant works wonders in curing the inflamed conditions of the skin. 7. A plant in the lily family, Butcher's broom (Ruscus aculeatus) is also known as box holly or knee holly. It contains ruscogenins, constituents believed to strengthen collagen in blood vessel walls and improve circulation. This is thought to tighten weak, stretched vessels such as those associated with varicose veins.
