My brain is not in filter mode atm, so this entry will be horrible, free-association type crap about the past few months. And, most wonderfully, the place to start is the most wonderous of all wunderbar things, LEAVE. More specifically, my own freakin' fantastic leave that allowed me to go home for almost the entire month of August. I will tell this story with pictures. I will likely not remember all of this story, as that is how whirlwind adventures go. Narita Airport, near Tokyo; my gateway from the land of ramen to the land of DUNKIN' DONUTS! ![]() I took a 10-hour bus ride from Misawa to get there, then waited in the airport for 9 hours for my plane, then flew 12 hours to Atlanta, and then another hour to Tampa, where I stayed with my auntie Terri for a few days before heading to Boston (via freakin' DC). Learned the hard way: do not eat curry before getting on a plane. MY FRIENDS Nat ![]() This is my bestest. She rules. Natalie and I, together, are indomitable. I never have to explain myself with her. I spent about 80% of my leave with her, just because she is the most comfortable, yet still fun, thing I know. Being with Nat was being home. ![]() Brownie ![]() So, my closest friends are quite fond of the middle finger. I am as well, so this works out fine. Brownie is also just not a fan of the camera. I think I have only one actual picture of that boy. So much film has been wasted in the attempt - thank the stars for the digital revolution. Ben-jammin ![]() Ben is great, but he is definitely different when he is not around his wife, who is also a friend of mine, though Nat. Thus "Ben-jammin" it is. We like Ben. This next picture is only up because John Aiello looks like Giovanni Ribisi. ![]() We were some serious drunks that month...just ask Nat and Kris! ![]() On the left is Kris Stenberg, who I have known for 10 years. Since I met her in HIGH SCHOOL, I am highly bothered by that number of years. I do not like the feeling of getting old. I spent some time at the Ben and Gina residence, where I became acquainted with their cats. Here, Kit plays playstation with us. ![]() It was Hot Shots Golf, and Kit would swipe at the ball while you were putting. At one point, I managed to get Kris, Gina, Brownie, Ben, and Nat all out to see Trucker, my friend Shawn's band. ![]() Only Nat and I had previously seen Trucker play, and they shocked the fuck right out of us. Why? Well, in previous years, Trucker had been a decent band, but not great. That night? They were so badass. And they made us feel like retards (not to mention jerks) for having warned our friends ahead of time that Trucker was a little rough around the edges. Shawn ![]() Oh my. Once upon a time, there was something brief between Shawn and I, something I found myself wanting very much, but the circumstances were less than pretty, and a very conflicted Shawn turned away from me. I was heartbroken and that was the first major rejection of my adult life. You know it burned. It took me the better part of a year to get over that. However, the two of us managed to get our friendship back up to the level it had taken us three years to build in the first place, and things were okay. So, I'm on leave and I've been at his house about an hour before I realize that something is up. Long story short, he appeared to want me back. At first he didn't regret not having turned into a couple in the first place - we were both depressed, miserable people and we probably would have made a suicide pact - but that changed. That changed because he didn't realize that I ever felt rejected in the first place, and I had to let him know just how wrong he was. Why did I even have to tell him this? Because it's the reason that he and I will never be - I absolutely cannot find myself with romantic feelings towards someone whom I've gone through the awful process of getting over. He was hearing all this stuff that was new to him but was so much a part of my old life, and he didn't take it well at all. I do love him, though, and hurting him like that made me want to vomit. WARPED TOUR ![]() The Warped Tour was the major event of being home. Held at Gillette Stadium, home of the NEW ENGLAND MOTHERFUCKIN' PATRIOTS (you heard me! what?!). I went with Nat and had a freakin' blast. Bands I saw: Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, Artfull Dodgers, Atmosphere, Washington Social Club, Bouncing Souls, the Briggs, and some other bands I can't remember. A glorious time was had. Artfull Dodgers ![]() ![]() Doesn't the dude on the right look like he should be at a Phish show or some shit? Bad Religion ![]() Great band, but they talk too much about Jesus and he shit-talked about the Pats. Flogging Molly What happens when you try to take a picture from the front row of the punk-rock show *before* the band starts playing... ![]() What happens when you try to take a picture from the front row of the punk-rock show *after* the band starts playing... ![]() Atmosphere ![]() I'm so in love with Slug right now. Odds and...well, odds... ![]() Reverse Day Care!! ![]() ![]() Any fan of SNL will get it and die laughing. DROOL ![]() And with that, I am worn out. I will continue later. On the next episode: she finds what appears to be a catch. Post a comment in response: |
