    Book meme (stolen from Caz)
    1. Which book has been on your shelves the longest?
I really probably should be doing this while at home and am able to look on my bookshelf! I think it's probably To Kill a Mockingbird, which I nicked from my parents house, and which is actually a school copy that one of my sisters must have in turn nicked from the school! Sorry, I mean "forgot to return"! :P

    2. What is your current read, your last read and the book you’ll read next?
My last read was Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (which I should probably post about one day). My current reads are The Stand by Stephen King and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by JK Rowling. I think my next read will probably be Bleak House by Charles Dickens. All rereads except Twilight. I like my comfort books, although I reread far too often, and should try new books more often.

    3. What book did everyone like and you hated?
Shadow of the Wind seemed to be very popular with almost everyone I spoke to (and it was on the bestsellers list, I believe), but I just couldn't get into it. It wasn't a bad book, but I just never lost myself in the story.

    4. Which book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t?
Probably any other Charles Dickens book other than Bleak House. I've tried, believe me, but I just cannot get into them. I would have listed Charles Dickens in the question above, but I've never actually made it past the first couple of chapters of most of his books, so I can't say from experience!

    5. Which book are you saving for “retirement?”
I'd love to read Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, but I've yet to attempt it. The closest I got was attempting to get it from the library, but there was a long waiting list. Also Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray has been sitting on my bookshelf, untouched, for a few years. It looks quite daunting. I think I would like to read the complete works of Shakespeare at some point too.

    6. Last page: read it first or wait til the end?
Are you joking?! Never EVER look at the last page early.

    7. Acknowledgements: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside?
Acknowledgements? Meh, I could take or leave them. I find the introduction or foreword quite interesting sometimes, although I'm never sure whether to read it before or after I read the book! The Stand has two introductions, one for before you read the book, and one for after! I like that.

    8. Which book character would you switch places with?
Any good witch or wizard in the Harry Potter books. I'd love to experience a world with magic. I'd also like to swap places with Lizzy Bennet from Pride & Prejudice for a while, to see if some of her confidence and extrovertness rubs off on me.

    9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time)?
To Kill A Mockingbird reminds me of 5th year in high school, because that was the book that we studied for higher English. In fact, a lot of books remind me of high school, if we studied them there, but To Kill a Mockingbird sticks in my mind because I fell in love with that book. I can't say the same about every book we studied (Brave New World and 1984, I'm looking at you!).

    10. Name a book you acquired in some interesting way.
Well, there's the "acquiring" of To Kill a Mockingbird. I can't think of any other semi-interesting stories.

    11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person?
I bought The Complete Brambly Hedge by Jill Barklem to give to my nephew not long after he was born, but then I decided to hold off a few years until he was older (I've since given it to him). I adored these books when I was little. One in particular, The Winter Story makes me feel all warm and fuzzy still.

    12. Which book has been with you to the most places?
    Oh, I've absolutely no idea.

    13. Any “required reading” you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad ten years later?
Not really. Books I loved in school, I still love, and books I hated, I still hate (see above!), although I haven't read them since, so my feelings may have changed on that subject.

    14. What is the strangest item you’ve ever found in a book?
I have a vague recollection of finding a dried out rose in a book in my parents house, but I don't remember what book. I think the rose belonged to one of sisters, who receievd it from a long forgotten boyfriend!

    15. Used or brand new?
I like the feeling of a well thumbed book, but only thumbed by me! I'll usually buy new, but I prefer it when they've got the used look.

    16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses?
A bit of both. I think The Stand is one of the best books ever written (with a sadly anti-climactic ending for such an amazing book), but I could take or leave other books he's written.

    17. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book?
Stardust by Neil Gaiman. The book was ok, but I preferred the film.

    18. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid?
I'm tempted to say Twilight. Not that I loved the book or anything, but dear lord, the film is atrocious!

    19. Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take?
I don't really think there's anyone in particular. I'll usually take recommendations on board and try them, but there's no one person that I've loved every single book they've suggested.
