finally
After a lot of thinking about it up there, i realized why New England was so much different than NC, out west or Orlando. All have very similar plant life (except orlando), and are almost equally green. But NE smells completely different. At first i was thinking it was because it's so close to the major cities in the area -- NYC, Boston even Providence. I don't think that's quite it though. Even Orlando has more of a unique scent than these areas. I think what i was missing was the smell of rain. It doesn't seem to rain there half as much as Orlando, Seattle or the smoky mountains. I suppose that's yet another one of the requirements of my future home.
I retook that FindYourSpot test when i was up there (and really bored -- i took a lot of tests^^) to find that pretty much all of my top 10 had high amounts of rain. Still lots of places in Oregon on that list, which seems accurate. That area has about the same weather as Seattle, but is a little more green due to less freezes. You lose the big city feel of farther north though. One of my favorite memories of Oregon was finding a nice strip of coastline with an endless amount of tidepools, and caves along the shoreline with every type of sealife you could find in an aquarium. Funny that places like that exist right under our noses sometimes.
If you've never eaten Boston Lobster Feast you're missing out. Since my mom is in town we went out there for dinner. Man, 5 lobsters and a load of other stuff... So good :) It feels like I was away for much longer than just 4 days. Thinking about, the last time i was away from orlando that long was Christmas; and before that this same week last year. I've really grown used to my independence here...
