saikano, the only love song you'll ever need
man, "rahal sama no sanbika" just screams "quirkiness". reminds me of something from disney... not unlike that scene from "beauty and the beast" where the townspeople are cheering gaston on. except here you have demon girls trying to cheer on a prince who has to bring a rebellious dark kingdom under his control after the king's death. from the soundtrack for disgaea, a game noted by reviewers for its quirkiness. yet another ps/ps2 game I'm left out on =(
I've been working on transcribing two songs for the past two days. one of them is the "lonely man theme" from the incredible hulk. pfft, I'm not paying 15 bucks for the entire piano booklet if this is the only song I want. ever since I heard the song on family guy, I can't get over it. someone did transcribe the song, but to be honest, the transcription sucks. the notes stop making sense halfway.
ah, family guy. is there anything that show can't do?
now the other song I'm working on... "kokoro no kage" from saishuu heiki kanojo, or saikano for short. I happened to stumble upon some people on the ut-anime irc channel talking about it, and after finding out what it was I decided to get it from someone.
and damn. damn. DAMN.
this show now takes the spot as "best anime series" evar. it gets everything right. I didn't exactly turn into a blubbering mass of tears, ah! my goddess style, but I came pretty darn close a few times. didn't want to wake my sister up, though. started watching it thursday night, but then went through the whole thing on friday to avoid pulling another "now and then, here and there" incident.
and the message the fansubbers put in at the end of episode 10:
a friendly warning from the team: this is the end of happiness in saikano. if you would prefer the anime to have a happy end, consider stopping here and pretending there are no more episodes. continuing will only bring misery and pain. you have been warned...
but like any serious anime watcher, I pressed on. and I feel like a better man for it. I wrote a review to animetempy (as well as reviews for bottle fairy and hundred stories), but the webmaster hasn't added them in yet. boo. hopefully, you'll start seeing my reviews there instead of in this here blog. heck, I'm getting the dvd when it comes out in april. that's my birthday present for myself. and if I had more money, probably the manga as well.
so yeah, I'm transcribing one of the songs in saikano to piano. I have half of the melody down, before the saxaphone kicks in. as for the harmony, that's gonna take a while. I suck at figuring out lower pitches, plus chords trip me up. and the fact that every note on our piano is flat doesn't help. noticed it when I brought the mp3 player so I could figure out the notes to the song. and ow, the discordance is bad. we haven't tuned that thing since we got it back when I was a wee lad. but now a piano tuner is coming over tomorrow, so all will be well.
also learning new songs on the piano, since I forgot to bring my sheet music with me. one of them's "party night" (hyper parapara version) from di gi charat. only the melody is transcribed, so it didn't take too long to learn. simple, yet fun melody to listen to. and yes, it's hyper. the other song's "dancing mad" from FFVI. whoo. although I now have doubts as to whether it's the "official" version or not. I also got "the decisive battle" from the same site, and it's nothing like the one I already have.
and now chong got a 12-page version of JENOVA (FFVII) from one of his friends. after I had to print out 13 pages for "dancing mad". oog.
as for homework done... partly finished with comp sci. done reading "the virginian" for world lit. anything else... ^^;
my sister's friend, diane, came over from austin this weekend. brought a guitar with her, as well as a small amp. so I attempted to play stuff like the trigun opening theme and "fly me to the moon". guitar's one of those possible hobbies I might take up if I had the time/money. although I already have the piano and the violin, which should be enough.
haha, "walk this way" by run dmc, featuring aerosmith. as someone on 4chan put it, that song + hilarious animated gif from the opening to popotan = the win.
I just finished getting all of hundred stories from bittorrent. since friday evening. and now I've fired up the second half of piano and the first half of popotan. when we have no cd-r's left. I r smart. :D
so tempted to fire up saikano and watch 3 more episodes. yes, I'm watching it again. but it's already 12:45 =(
