Darke Illusions Enter The Darkness Prologue
    PROLOGUE

“Blood to Blood, Life to Life, Time to Time, Endless we live, we Kindred, Fortunate and Damned, Outcast and Protected. From Cain we arrived, in his Bloodlines we have followed, parted in Clans. We wander the Night and Stalk the Darkness. We are Vampyres, Born to the Darkness and Embraced by the Blood. Our Destiny is to kill in the Embrace. Our lifeline is Eternal. Nobody knows who we are and Destined to Immortality.” – Flame McLeod, Sidhe of Clan McLeod, Vampyre of Clan Gangrel

It all began with Cain; he was the first man to spill the blood of his brother, not out of anger or passion, but simple greed. To make matters worse, he drank some of the blood hoping to gain his brother’s strength and good fortune. When his clan realized what he had done, they cursed him and called down the wrath of the spirits and of the Earth Mother upon him. He was transformed into a being that was shunned by his clan and cursed by the sun. His appearance was terrifying, he was more animal than man, his fingers became talon, his body was bent and torn and his face was mask of horror and fear.

Cain’s pain was horrible, the hunger for the blood he had stolen burned within him. It was driving him to madness, each night as the sun’s burning rays slid below the horizon, he would claw his way up from the ground searching for any creature to drain of their blood. At first it was small animals, rabbits, and rats but as his hunger grew more and more excruciating, he searched for more and more blood. Soon his clan had found the drained carcasses of horses and deer, fearing for their children the clan turned to a wise man, The Wizard of Artwin for guidance. He told them that they must hunt Cain and bring him to the moor, bound by chains made of his sister’s hair.

This did as he asked, and within the week brought the monstrous creature to the moor to face the wizard’s judgment. After a few moments, the wizard realized that Cain was more than cursed; he was damned and as such could not be killed by mortal hands. As he pronounced his findings, Cain wailed pitifully, his pain had become so unbearable he had hoped that his clan would be willing to kill him, as he had tried to kill himself to avail. The wizard turned his heart from Cain, but he could not harden his heart his heart from Cain’s sisters who wept for their lost brother and his pain. The youngest, Lasombra, pleaded for her brother’s deliverance, it had been her twin brother who Cain had slain, yet she begged without shame or guile for mercy on her remaining brother’s soul. The wizard regarded Lasombra with soft and gentle eyes, and simply told her the price was too great; to leave and go one with her life, let her brother pay for his own sins. Lasombra would not hear of it, she convinced her sisters and her mother to join with her in entreating the old wizard; finally he relented and told them the only way to diminish Cain suffering. The Wizard of Artwin told them that the only Keeper of Phoenix’s Gate could truly save Cain’s soul, but by the time they could get to his home, Cain would have gone completely mad and kill his entire clan.

Every man, woman and child would die, unless his could make a supreme sacrifice for him and for their clan. It was the blood of his brother that was causing the pain, the hunger, and madness. The only way to stop the blood was to share it, his own family had chosen between their lives and the lives of the clan.

Sense killing his brother had reduced him to drink from his own sisters, what was left of Cain’s soul wept bitterly and his tears went into his sister’s wounds. It was the embrace.

The first clan was known as The Nosferatu, or “The Damned.” From them came Clan Lasombra, named after Cain’s sister then came the others, Clan Toreador, Venture, Malkavian, Gangrel, Brujah, Tremere and Caitiff, a weak blooded are members of no clan. Together all the clans were known as “The Camarilla” ruled by the leaders of all the clans.

The clan of vampire known as the Tremere has an interesting and dubious history the dates back to the middle ages, shortly before the Renaissance. The history of the clan begins 900 ago with the man known only as Tremere. Tremere was a member of the order of Hermes, a mage of great insight and power. With power, however, comes lust for greater power in magic, but also power over mortals, over life and death. He found out about vampyre’s who could live for centuries and he deeply wanted this ability. So with his magic and knowledge, he kidnapped unwilling Kindred and did numerous experiments on them and their blood and formed a potion out of altered vampire blood and other ingredients which turned Tremere into a vampire. He then embraced the other members of the Order of Hermes, creating Clan Tremere.

Such vile deeds earned the clan a sinister reputation; even today, certain vampire clans would love nothing better than to destroy the entire Tremere line. Nonetheless, Clan Tremere holds a place in the Camarilla, for its members were instrumental in suppressing the Inquisition and supporting the Masquerade. Then too, the Tremere have proved themselves dangerous enemies and powerful allies. Tremere still practice a version of the arcane arts they studied in life and so these “warlocks” use their sorcerous powers in service to the Camarilla…almost as much as they use the Camarilla in service to themselves.
