As your company expands and changes, so does your need to get a good company phone system. A single phone line isn’t adequate to manage the volume of calls that you receive and send during the day, and your growing quantity of employees should have some way to communicate with each other without having to get up from their desks.
A good option to consider in this situation will be a PBX or private branch exchange. This is a telephone system that includes a switchboard that routes and transfer calls to and within a network of devices. It has the capability to maximize the resources a single or a small quantity of telephone lines have.
Typically found in hotels and big firms, it's a wonderful alternative to subscribing to several telephone lines all at once.
To get a private branch exchange, you can either:
1. contact a VoIP service provider to set a system up on your office computer network or,
2. call your local telephone company and ask them to install a proprietary system.
Keep in mind that although the two kinds of systems let you do the same thing, they’re completely different in how they function and in a lot of other areas. Some of these areas are:
• Installation fees - a proprietary system costs more to install than a VoIP-based network. A landline system shall need to be setup from scratch, with devices and telephone cables from the specific phone company you hired. VoIP systems may not need any additional fees during installation, depending on your existing IT infrastructure.
• Monthly dues - because you don’t use a proprietary hardware from the telephone company, internet-based systems are considerably less expensive than landline networks.
• Dependencies - if your private branch exchange is on your pc, the former can only be as good as your IT infrastructure. Your internet connection must be fast and stable, and your computer systems should be working smoothly and have the most up-to-date components. You will also need electricity. If you opted for a landline system, it
usually works even when there's not power.
• Modifications and maintenance - your PBX would have to be reinstalled each time you need to change or move offices if you subscribed to a proprietary system. Online systems, however only need you to get your computer systems set up.
• Area - because a VoIP system works on-line, it is possible to have a private branch exchange spread over the country and still using only the same few phone lines. Landline systems need to be grounded in a fixed area, usually just within your office.
• Scalability - new technology to your proprietary switchboard might need a replacement or a serious hardware upgrade. Internet-based systems only typically require a quick update, an account creation or another download to add new features and functions to your switching system.
You'll find a good deal of other advantages and disadvantages between on-line and landline private branch exchange systems. Keep the needs of your company in mind and you’re certain to subscribe to the appropriate company phone system.
