Next Morning
Like clockwork, Christopher woke me up sometime during the wee hours of the morning. And the typical routine followed---feeding, burping, changing, bathing, playing. I walked outside and rocked him as I paced back and forth. His cries quieted and he just stared at me until finally falling asleep. It only took about two hours this time. I settled him into his carrier and took him outside.
I walked to the shoreline, pulled his shade up, and tucked the blanket around him. The sky still had a light purple tint to it, but not near as purple as the day before. The water appeared calmer now, but....something was in the distance....just...sitting in the water. It was big, black, and looked jagged.
I hurried back to the hut and set Christopher on the table. "Jack!" I exclaimed, shaking him. "Jack, wake up!"
