AT NIGHT I CRY BLACK EYES Candice Coker The mirror sees the bruises left by your fist, My beautiful face stares back like a broken vase. I have changed into a women that I don’t even know, Married to a man that beats me black and blue. Your anger builds like a hurricane, Ready to pounce like a cheetah hunting prey. I am tired of forgiving you for the pain you cause, I question me leaving, but at what cost? The bar is your favorite place to be, Drinking with Jim, Jack, and Hosea. Then when you’re done, you come home to me, Pissed at the world because you had to leave. Without me speaking you begin to yell, Punish me for making your life a living hell. Blamed for every mistake you make, You take out your frustration on my face. You go off to bed as if nothing happened, Accepting the fact that I deserved what I got. Standing at sink, I watch the glass stare back, An unrecognizable woman cries tears of black. Post a comment in response: |
