    Embroidery
Embroidery, though time consuming is very rewarding for me! I enjoy painting pictures on fabric with thread. I can do so much better with a needle than I ever thought about doing with brush or pencil! I've always been fond of the textile arts. I have what I laughingly refer to as an antique potholder. My mother gave me a stamped pattern to practice my first faltering stitches on. The cloth was old when she gave it to me. I worked on it a bit, then got bored and laid it aside. Well, when I was about twelve, I was pretty good with the sewing machine and got it in my head that it would go much faster on the machine than by hand. I hadn't stitched very far before I discovered I was making a mess. I tried to rip out my stitches, but saw that it was beyond my skill level to do this without damaging the cloth. I wisely decided to try again when I was older. Not long ago, I pulled it out of an old workbasket and gently pulled out the machine stitching. I've almost completed it. It's yellowed and stained with age and I've told onlookers it will be an antique when it's finished! But what I feel makes it an interesting piece is that you can see the different skill levels in the stitching. I can't wait to see how it will turn out. And I can't help wondering which of my boys will beg for it!
