    women as mothers
I have read the questions on the we have brains website many times, but i fail to respond. With this one, however, I immediately opened up Wordpad to excavate my ideas. Motherhood (and this is not coming from a first hand experience) can mean a life beginning. A woman can start a new life and be reborn as a mother. If she doesn't want to be reborn herself, that's ok too. The bottom line, is that a woman's individuality is not entirely lost when she becomes a mother. Society may see her as JUST a mother, but she does not have to commit merely to society's standards. Maybe she can find a community of feminist mothers who understand her issues. Maybe she can be an individual and create her own manifestA as a mother.

Personally, (and everything is personal to me) I have never wanted to have children. I have not seen one healthy family end up healthy in my life. Until I see that family, maybe I will consider having a child myself. If I do end up having a child or children, I would still be the same person. My role(s) would change but that doesn't mean that I as an individual am a different person. Society may call me merely a mother, but I would know in my heart that I am so much more than that.

Some say that not wanting a child is sad. People have actually TOLD me to my face those exact words. I think that it is sad to go through life having a child just because society tells you to.

I think I went off topic a little there.
