A Bamboo Bowl
Sam and I have received many warm, thoughtful congratulations on our engagement from family and friends. It's been a lovely time, both because we're happy and because people really seem to be sharing this happiness with us.
On Christmas we saw Jon and Andrea, my brother's girlfriend's parents, who live in New Haven and whom we see regularly because Sam and I make frequent trips to New Haven. My family spent last Christmas at their house and this year Sam and I stopped in Christmas afternoon to see my brother and Julia and make some Christmas deliveries. Jon and Andrea surprised us with a beautiful and unexpected engagement gift, which was really touching. This bamboo bowl is, obviously, gorgeous (and, note well, it's my favorite color) but it's also symbolic because their family has a tradition of including bamboo in their wedding ceremonies. I really love it! I suppose it belongs in the kitchen, but so far it hasn't left our bedroom because this is where I spend most of my time and I like to see it.
