NavajoNationFairCore!
THURSDAY SEPT 7, 2006
So our weekend started on Thursday rather than Friday. We were added to a show that was put on by CBC and Arising Crestfall. The show was planned to be outdoors but the rain had other plans for us so the show was moved indoors. Guilty Wilson was already into their set when we all got there. We loaded in and setup off the side stage. Once GW was done we proceeded to play. I (kc) was coming off a cold that seemed to flare up that night for some reason. We played about 7 songs and the voice held up. Whew... thanks to everyone that bought a shirt, bought CDs, came up to talk to us and took our samplers. That was a fun show...the NHS Tent show was cancelled so we never made it to the fairgrounds.
FRIDAY SEPT 8, 2006
Friday was even more hectic. We don't know where the Navajo Nation council chambers are located...hahah. We were supposed to get out vehicle passes from there but we ended up getting lost. So much for knowing about the NN government. We talked our way passed the gate ppl and security throwing the NN Coucil Tent phrase around. They let us in and we had like 20 minutes to get to the stage. We got there and Norvin was no where to be found. Chuck and I had to play the songs without a bassline to mix the guitar and drums. Sounded a little weird but we think the 20 ppl in the crowd liked it. The NNC ppl liked it a lot and they were excited to get us back on Saturday night (remember this). We loaded up our gear and checked out the SheDaisy's band while they were doing their sound check. Wow...we could only dream about playing a stage that big to a full house.
Later on that night we headed to the Basha's parking lot for the Rockabilly Punx/Third Degree sponsored show. There were lots of people in attendance, the atmosphere was good and the night was young. We watched Child Left Behind, SOL, Downplay and The Blissins play - sooo cool. Here's some arithmetic fer ya: F.A.M.E. = INSANE! So insane that the show was shut down. The crowd was calm up until FAME hit the stage and then the pit started up. FAME was supposed to stop their set so the other bands could play but the crowd screamed for more and they obliged. About 1 minute into the encore song the pit went ballistic and the security dudes responded by shutting the show down. We were ready with our gear off to the side...we were up next. I guess it just wasn't meant to be for us. Thanks anyway to everyone who bought a shirt, CD and took the free CDs. It was cool to see our friends in other bands and some supporters in the crowd. Friday night ended about 2pm Saturday morning for us.
SATURDAY SEPT 9, 2006
We didn't even attempt to go to the parade. We saw people setting up their camping equipment as early as Thursday afternoon - fanatics. We took made it into Tse Bonito at about 12:30p and to our surprise the parade was already over. We set up our equipment at the CBC Parking lot. We played a 40-minute set with the dark clouds as a backdrop.

It was pretty cool show! We met some people, watched Guity Wilson play a couple songs with Chuck on drums. Arising Crestfall decided to put on an evening show and we were invited to come back...off we went only to wait 20 minutes in the packed traffic. We had our vehicle pass, thanks to the Speaker of the House Lawrence Morgan himself - he brought it over from the NNC office after our debacle. We went in at Gate 8 which is on the southeast side of the fairgrounds. We unloaded in front of the Dodge tent and parked the trailer. We ran all our eqp to the NNC tent. We were introduced as a featured band by the NNC officials. The evening program started without the scheduled performers present. So we were told by the NNC people that we could go on early and perform a little longer. We were pretty stoked since there were a bunch of ppl there. So we set the stage up and what do you know? The first performer comes up to the stage as we are ready to play our first song. The MC dude tells us to tear down the stage for her...what?! So we tell the MC dude that we were asked to play for an hour, he came back with 30 minutes and we countered with 45-minutes - deal. So we started off our set and the crowd grew bigger. About 20 minutes into our set the MC dude comes up to us and tells us we're done...that was our last song...clear off the stage.
Disappointment came quick for me because we had told our friends and family we were playing at 7pm. We also handed flyers that had 7pm as our set time. We took an earlier slot in hopes of helping the program to move along without any big breaks or to cause embarassment to the very late performers. But that's the way it goes I guess...as my good friend would say - cest le vi. Besides...it made us live up to the reason behind our name - putting other people first...

So we stuck around for little while and gave out some free CDs. We left the fairgrounds through Gate 2 - a major accomplishment since we drove the truck and trailer clear across the fairgrounds at 7pm in the evening...but not before we settled the score with these cats (hehehe):

We headed back to the CBC Parking lot amid the hundreds of other vehicles. Penny Lane wasn't too happy leaving the midway without getting to ride. She threw a temper tantrum...

Once we got the CBC Parking lot we set up our merch. Thanks to Redhand Apparel and Sian Clothing for hooking us up with some sweet swag. We were also stoked that we got a new banner for the weekend...

We quickly set up our equipment and the dudes in Arising Crestfall also let us use some of their eqp (THANKS!). Instead of rehashing the songs we played our older songs. The crowd was enthused and we put everything we had into it since we wanted to make a statement...thanks for the amazing weekend!

We played five shows in three days...priceless.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the shows. Thank you for buying our shirts and CDs. We hope you enjoy the free CD - we gave out a 100 of them!! Thanks to the bands that made it worthwhile - Arising Crestfall, Guilty Wilson, MBM, Third Degree, SOL, Downplay, The Streetfighters, The Blissins, The Bandits, FAME, the rapper dudes and the Navajo Elvis dude. Much thanks to the NN Council Partnership tent, Rockabilly Punx Productions and Community Bible Church for believing in us. It was good to see those we knew and it was even more cool to meet a lot of you. We hope to see you again soon...very soon.
