How do I add a counter to my journal?

Blurty does not offer a web counter service at this time, but it is possible to add a counter from a third party to your journal using an override as described here:

Paid Accounts and Early Adopter can also place their counter wherever they wish by creating a custom style and inserting the code in an appropriate spot.
