Network Issues on June 19, 2006
On the morning of June 19, 2006 (US Time), Blurty experienced some sporadic network issues that lasted for a couple of hours. These were not problems with the Blurty servers, but related to the bandwidth provider for the site. We believe that it has been fully resolved at this time. Sorry! :-)

Weekend Server Work
We're doing a bit of work on the Blurty hardware this weekend. Apologies if you have any trouble reaching the site on and off. It's part of the recent upgrades and will help keep things fast and stable in the long run. Everything should be back to normal by Sunday morning - we think!

March Hardware Upgrade Final Update
We now believe that all of the (reported) bugs related to the recent hardware upgrade have been fixed. A big "thanks" to all of the Blurty users who sent problem reports and especially those who posted in the last news update for helping us track down the bugs. If you still see any problems that you believe are related to the upgrade, just let us know.
The next major update will be an upgrade to a newer version of the site code. We have no doubt that there could be a few small temporary bugs related to that upgrade as well once it happens, but in the long run it will make your Blurty experience much better.
More on the software upgrade soon. Thanks again. :)

Blurty Server Upgrades
In the late night of March 21st and early morning hours of the 22nd, we did some major upgrades to the servers that run Blurty.com. The site should be much faster now. Sorry for the temporary downtime if you experienced any.
We are going to be doing some more software upgrades as well and adding some new features for all Blurty.com users. We are also planning to increase the abilities of new accounts to bring them in line with the older (Early Adopter) accounts.
If you have suggestions for how this site can be improved, please post them here. We've been slacking on upgrades for a little while, but things are moving again now. We want to hear from you on how the site can be improved and what you would like to see in the way of features, account improvements, etc.
Thanks for sticking with us and get ready for more changes (and more news) soon!

Off the rag
The site problems should be fixed now. Thanks for your patience, as always, and Blurty herself would like to thank you for being so understanding during this time of the month. We have purchased a case of Midol in an effort to prevent this from happening again anytime soon.

Current Site Impairment Issues
Blurty is going through a special time in her life, where useful properly
functioning bits of data are coming from inside her server, outside, through
an opening between her heatsinks. You may notice some changes in the way
Blurty appears and behaves during this time. For instance, you may notice
- Has difficulty allowing you to log on.
- Will not upload or display some user pictures.
- May not allow you to validate or re-validate, or send other automated
- May display odd looking error messages, such as:
[Error: Can't call method "do" on an undefined value at
/home/literot/blurty/cgi-bin/ljlib.pl line 5793. ]
Database temporarily unavailable during maintenance.
[Error: Blue, White. Blue, White at /home/mong01/oid/cgi-bin/ljpad.pl line
[Error: Can't locate LWP/Simple.pm in @INC (@INC contains:
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl . /usr/local/apache/ /usr/local/apache/lib/perl)
at (eval 124) line 1. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at (eval 124) line
- In general seems to be really annoyed at the world right now.
Unfortunately, while the hard-working Blurty engineers are attempting to get
everything back to normal as soon as possible, and shave any excess hair
from the exhaust fans, it may take some time for these problems to resolve.
Once everything is working again, another post will appear on this very page
(we swear!) to let you know.
Until that time, please do not open any Support tickets regarding technical
issues, as it is almost certain that they are being caused by Blurty's
"changes". Currently, Support volunteers are being swamped with questions
about the current issues, and they have no more information than what is
contained in this post. This is the place to look for any further updated
information, so please do leave the board for other issues. Note that
posting a Support request asking "So what's REALLY going on?", "WHEN WILL
DIS BE BACK UP?!?!!!!111one", etc, may cause liver spots, penis shrinkage,
narcolepsy, or Rosie O'Donell Syndrome.
Thank you for your patience while Blurty is on her rags.

The Abuse Team currently has 2 openings. We'll be accepting and looking over applications for the next couple of days, so if you're interested, apply away! Instructions on how to submit your application and what should be included can be found here: http://www.blurty.com/userinfo.bml?user=abuse
Please take note that the Abuse Team has activity requirements. If you do not think that you will be able to donate at least a couple of hours a week to the board, then this is probably not the place for you to consider helping out. Abuse work can be frustrating and monotonous at times and funny and interesting at others. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that it's not always fun. That's about it! Apply away!

Duplicate entry errors
There is currently a problem with one of the servers preventing some users from posting entries. Users on Cluster 2 may receive an error saying something like "Server error: Database error: Duplicate entry '2004-1-15' for key 2". These users might also receive errors when attempting to delete entries or on other parts of the site. The admins have been notified, so please be patient while an army of trained monkeys locates the problem and obliterates it with laser weapons.

The validation problem appears to be fixed now. If you had problems before, please see this FAQ for information on having the email re-sent: http://www.blurty.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=4
Tuesday, December 30th, 2003
There is currently a glitch in the validation system preventing the proper link from appearing in the email. When creating a new account or changing the email address on an existing account, the email sent is giving a link to http://www.blurty.com/confirm/
- this link does not lead to a valid page. The admins are aware of the problem, and it should be fixed before it becomes a major problem. Please note that not being validated has no effect on your account until 7 days later, at which point you will be unable to comment while logged in. Accounts are not deleted for validation issues. When the problem is resolved, a post will be made here informing you of what steps you need to take to become validated. For more information on validation, please see http://www.blurty.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=4
As always, we apologize for the inconvenience and request that you do not open support requests regarding this issue.

Hard Drive Failure
Sorry, everyone. We had one of the main database drives fail over the weekend. The first drive we thought we were going to replace it with is also having problems. The second problem may be compatibility or something. We've got someone working on it right now, and hope to have it resolved within hours.
Hopefully, the hardware issues have given you a little extra time to get out and do some holiday shopping or other useful stuffs. :)
I'll update this soon if there are any breaking developments.

Upgrades are currently being made, and it may be impossible to reach certain parts of the site, particularly when trying to log in. You may likely get an error similar to "Error: Can't call method "do" on an undefined value at /home/literot/blurty/cgi-bin/ljlib.pl line ####". This is a known issue and should be resolved soon.Your patience is appreciated, and we request that you do not open any support requests about this problem.
As always, we apologize for the inconvenience.

Notice of New Policy
Recently, it's become necessary to cover ourselves legally in a few ways.
One of those ways applies to role play journals. After much discussion and
tossing around of ideas, we decided that, instead of going on a mass
suspension spree and getting rid of all the role play journals, we would
require all role play accounts to have a disclaimer instead.
The rules for the disclaimer are simple.
-You MUST use the disclaimer found here:http://www.blurty.com/talkread.bml?journal=abuse&itemid=198819.
disclaimer will be acceptable. IT MUST BE OUR DISCLAIMER.
-The disclaimer must appear on BOTH the userinfo page of your
journal/community AND the main journal page. The easiest way to do this is
by posting it in an entry and dating it several years in the future, however
it doesn't matter how you post it, as long as it always appears somewhere on
the main journal page in an easy to read font and font size.
-You have until November 18th to ensure that you have the disclaimers posted
in the proper places on your journal/community. After that date,
non-compliant journals are subject to suspension, until the owner of the
journal/community contacts the ABuse Team and agrees to post the disclaimer.
-You must understand that if we are contacted by the management of the
celebrity/owner of the copyrighted material/etc of whomever you are
roleplaying, we have no choice but to suspend your journal. It doesn't
happen very often, but it has happened before.
That's it! We know it's a bit of a drag, but this is what we have to do to
be legally compliant as far as roleplay journals go.
We also want to remind you that Blurty is a site for users who are over the
age of 18 ONLY. It's stated plainly on the account creation page, and you
must check a box verifying that you are 18 when you sign up for your
account. Accounts that are found to be held by users under the age of 18
will continue to be permanently suspended. . We understand that the age
policy is something that a lot of you have a problem with, however, it is
not going to change.
Thank you all for supporting the site, and helping Blurty grow! Current Music: Machine Gun Fellatio - Unsent Letter (live Panel)

Unexpected downtime this morning, Sept. 19th, 2003
Well, it looks like Hurricane Isabel beat up on our bandwidth provider. Either that, or we just had some bad karma we needed to get rid of this morning. Whatever happened, we're back now and everything looks normal again. If we figure out exactly what went wrong (it was definitely a connectivity problem, not servers), we'll try to let you know.
Hope you don't get rained on. :-)

Thanks for all of the comments. We are aware of the can't-stay-logged-in issue right now, and we're working on it. We thought we had it fixed last night, but apparently not. Should be resolved very shortly. Thanks for your patience, and please don't file additional support requests about this issue for now. :)

Early Morning August 24, Server Maintenance
The overnight work on the site was unscheduled, but had to be done to keep everything running smoothly - sorry for the interruption.
In other news, we have some more new hardware on order, which should be in place in the next few weeks, we'll keep you updated!
Thanks for reading.

New Blurty Client for Windows Users
Hi everyone! Thanks to tempest
, we've added the LJ Semagic client to Blurty. This is an enhanced version of the Visions client, and we think it's pretty neat. You can check it out by going to the Client Download page
for Windows users.
Thanks to the original creators, and to those who tweaked it! You all know who you are. :)

Saturday night maintenance hopefully complete
Hi everyone. We had a little unexpected downtime last night. We're still not sure exactly why, but it had something to do with a router and some networking and electricity and humans. You know, the usual stuff.
Sorry about that, hopefully it won't happen again too soon! We hope you had a great Saturday night without us. :-)

The End of Early Adopter Accounts
We have (finally) ended the distribution of Early Adopter accounts at Blurty. That means we are entering the next phase of development. All new accounts will be Free Accounts from here forward. We will be adding a tiered account system in May. That means that those with Free Accounts who want all of the bells and whistles and extra features will have the opportunity to get higher level accounts once they are introduced in the next month.
We want to thank all of you for your help during the testing phase of Blurty and, of course, anyone who already has an Early Adopter account will keep that account for as long as they choose to remain a member.
Starting with the change over to Free Accounts, we are also going to begin strictly enforcing the 18 and over policy. If you have an Early Adopter account, we won't be going back and checking everyone, but if you sign up for a new Free Account, we will require that you are over 18 years old, as the rules say. Thanks for understanding!
I guess that's all for now. There are a lot of good things coming, stay tuned.
