Modifying the look of communities. [06 Mar 2004|11:39am]

draconid
I just came across an interesting support request. Not interesting because it was hard to answer, but interesting because as far as I know there are no FAQs that answer the question and there really should be.

As the subject of this post suggests, the user wanted to know how to modify the look of their community. They already knew how to modify the look of a normal journal. So I propose that we either need an extension to the "How do I modify the look of my journal?" FAQ [http://www.blurty.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=35] explaining how to get to the Modify Look page for a community (which would presumably be mentioned after the link pointing to modify.bml), or a separate FAQ in the community section entitled "How do I modify the look of my community?" I actually think the second idea would be better, as people would probably look under communities to find their answer first.

I'm not sure how we would want to word the FAQ however. It's always hard to explain things that cover several different pages and link traversal. I'm also terrible at writing FAQs. I'll think on it and see if I can work out decent wording. In the meantime, I leave it to everyone else to come up with suggestions!

NOTE: Any entries already on your journal must be edited one by one if you wish to change the security level for them. More information on editing can be found here: http://www.blurty.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=20

Client Support Requests [03 Nov 2003|09:02am]

ism
I'm not sure where to put this.. so I'm guessing it would be here. Anyways, there should be a notice somewhere (possibly the support request submission page) that tells users to include their client info (which client and platforms they're using) when entering a request about client help.

Can a new FAQ be created under the customization category for tutorials, and within that new FAQ link each of the tutorials available?

FAQ link on the poll creator page (http://www.blurty.com/poll/create.bml) links to FAQ #69 - how do I manage my friends list? rather than to FAQ #102 - how do I add a poll?

Changes to FAQ 17 [28 Oct 2003|07:03pm]

bertho
A list of changes:

Moved to Journal Entries category from Customizing

Title changed to cover music: How do I add a mood icon and/or current music to my posts?

Mood directions: From the Visions or Semagic client
[Side Note: anyone use the Mac client and can give directions?]

Added Note that you can type your own mood into the box, however a mood icon will not be associated with it.

Removed: Blurty is still in the developmental stages, from the next paragraph.

Added the following regarding music:
To add current music to your entries, you may simply type what you are listening to in the box for Current Music on the Web update page, or you may try one of the downloadable clients available at http://www.blurty.com/download/ - some clients have an auto-detect feature which will fill in your current music automatically if you are listening to music through one of the supported players.

Also added the word "background" to the title of FAQ 119

A wrong FAQ link number in FAQ [18 Aug 2003|10:11pm]

In FAQ #108 (What is the memory feature, and how do I use it?), it links to FAQ #62 (Can I post a "members only" post in a community?) where it should instead link to the message board setup question, which is FAQ #104 (How do I set up message boards and get comments on my journal entries?).

And hi.

Can I change my username?
At present, Blurty does not allow username changes. There is no way for you to keep your journal entries but change the username of your account. You will need to create a new account on Blurty in order to use a journal with a different username. If the username you would like to use is unavailable, try adding variants such as numbers and letters or underscores to the username.

Usernames are also not recyclable. If a user has deleted their journal, it is not possible for you to create a new account using that username. For more information, please visit: http://www.blurty.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=7

Has anyone else noticed how in Support requests, the "Account type" link @ the top goes to FAQ #38 ("What are overrides? How do they work?)? ;)

Include in FAQ #10 ("How can I change my password?") that in order to change your password, you will need to have validated the current e-mail address with the account?

Wrong linked FAQ in Poll Creator [28 Jul 2003|04:38pm]

On the Poll Creator page, the link to the FAQ leads to FAQ #69: How do I manage my friends list? instead of FAQ #102: How do I add a poll into my journal entries?.

Error in FAQ 57 [24 Jul 2003|10:58pm]

ism
Earlier today, I noticed an error in FAQ 57: How do I join a community?.

In the first paragraph, it is mentioned to "Check out the following FAQ to learn how to sign up for a Blurty account. Once you have a Blurty account, joining a community costs nothing, and you can join as many communities as you want." The problem also lies here, as there is no FAQ referenced along with this statement, or anywhere else in the FAQ article.

Adding merge link to cust FAQs [24 Jul 2003|09:42am]

I think we need to add this: (http://www.blurty.com/talkread.bml?journal=customization&itemid=1977) to FAQ 36 and FAQ49, so we don't have to point them to overrides FAQ 38 all the time, or link to the tutorial.

How do I edit the Community Information section?

To edit your Community Information section, log in as the community (http://www.blurty.com/login.bml), and go to the Edit Information page: (http://www.blurty.com/editinfo.bml).

You can also do so while logged in as the maintainer at the Edit Information page: (http://www.blurty.com/editinfo.bml). At the top section labelled "Switch Journal", select the community you would like to work with using the drop-down box, and click "Switch".

In FAQ #102, I think it'd be wise to add that only Early Adopter, Paid, and Permanent Accounts can create polls. Somewhere, anywhere on there. ;P

FAQ 38/FAQ 21/FAQ 26/FAQ 58/Validation Prompt/Embedding/FAQ2 [05 Jul 2003|09:47am]

hourglass
Have FAQ 38 link to the GLOBAL_HEAD merging tutorial in the last paragraph?

Edit - FAQ 21: For this FAQ, can we add the info on how to delete journal entries through the comments pages? The editjournal.bml function won't work if there are forms on the entries with the current Blurty code.

+Edit - FAQ 26: Perhaps link this FAQ to FAQ 18 so that users can backdate their entries if they don't wish to change the date/time on the entries after that date?

++Edit - FAQ 58: Add info that communities cannot post entries, e.g. If you receive the "Can't post as non-user" error, then you are trying to post with a community or shared journal account. You will need to login to a personal account, such as the maintainer account, in order to post entries to your community.

Also, about the validation prompt:

You need to validate your new email address. Your old one was good, but since you've changed it, you need to re-validate the new one. Visit the support area for more information.

Can we have it point to FAQ 11 *cough* 4 instead of support area? :) [This one for the changed email address, as well as the initial validation one]

+++Edit - On the embedding guide, the HTML section needs to be changed from "View my LiveJournal" to "View my Blurty".

More Editing yay - FAQ 2 renamed to "How do I get started? How do I create a Blurty account?".

FAQ 9 [03 Jul 2003|08:12am]

hourglass
Suggest adding to FAQ 9:

You will need to have access to a previously validated email address, or the email address currently registered on your Blurty account, in order to receive your username and/or password. If you do not have access to a previously validated email address or to the current email address registered to your account, and can not remember your password, we regret to inform you that we can not send your password to you. For security reasons, Blurty cannot send your password to any other email addresses.

If you would like to continue using Blurty, you will need to create a new account: http://www.blurty.com/create.bml

FAQ 103/35 [03 Jul 2003|07:24am]

hourglass
FAQ #103 actually says that FAQ 35 will address "explicitly selecting a custom style", but then, it doesn't.

Suggest adding this section to FAQ 35, telling user how to select their custom styles in Modify journal.
