Guidelines [24 Apr 2003|10:10pm]

I'm getting ready to slightly revamp the community. I'll be writing up a set of guidelines and a kind of "policy" regarding submission of themes, size, etc. I'd like some feedback and ideas for this from all of you who contribute to this community as to what you believe are some good ideas/guidelines/etc. Since the themes we work on here are for public use, I feel that the public should have some input.

I'm also going to eventually restrict this community to submission and discussion of public themes. If the new account system eventually allows for personal themes for individuals, there will be a seperate community for the discussion/sharing of those.

I'll leave this all open to discussion for a few days, and then after the weekened implement the changes and re-vamped community :)

Dear: moodthemes [24 Apr 2003|04:06pm]

Hello. I was interested in making icons, for mood themes. Here are sample of what I made so far. I know it's a little large, but maybe it could still be accepted.

(By the way, the character is a representation of the bassist of my favorite band, MUCC. The bassist's name is YUKKE. If you want more information on MUCC, then their website is here.)

Here are the examples:

Happy

Bouncy

Confused

Drunk / Strange

Nerdy

???

If you like it... I will finish up the theme ^^

Stupid question [04 Apr 2003|05:33pm]

killermuffin
Is a 33 to 35 pixel tall mood icon too tall? The characters with a lot of strokes are turning into blobs of color rather than a legible word at times.

When I get finished with them, what's the best way to submit the theme to ya, Angel? I can upload them all by name intoa directory on my webspace or do you want them someplace else? It would be like angry.gif so it's not too hard to figure out.

I wish I could write these grass style, but that's an intiricate art beyond my ken.

I'm frustrated by my socialization into the instant gratification culture.

I've, um, been playing around with my chinese character dictionary lately and it suddenly occured to me that it would be tres cool to have the characters up in the mood area, so instant muffie mood theme. It's not like this is hard, unlike what Hazel and the rest of you do. I am in awe of your artistic talent. At any rate, I picked the character that seemed to reflect the mood the best. Predatory was a pain, but anyway. I also chose the color based on the color's meaning, too. At least as cross culturally as posslble. Making them small was a bit of a pain, but I got them pretty legible at 20 to 24 pixels tall. Length varies with the number of characters.

Here's a few of them:

Aggravated:
Annoyed:
Awake:
Bouncy:
Curious:

They don't move or flash or whatever, just some rock steady.

Are these something people might find interesting or am I just sort of hanging out with my time until Blurty lets me do my own private mood theme? I have no idea, I've never done this before.

(I know I've gotten more positive feedback for the Ovoids theme; I'm just curious as to whether I can get any feedback for the anime eyes.)

Are there any icons that are difficult to understand? If so, which ones?

As you can see here ( http://www.livejournal.com/moodlist.bml?moodtheme=8008 ), there is a high degree of repetition. Which moods would you like to see a unique icon for?

I'm still here! [19 Mar 2003|10:13pm]

I was kind of MIA for a bit because I moved, and I could only pop in briefly but I'm back completely now.

A few things.

Discussions about a post are fine in comments but if you want to start a new discussion on another topic, please, please make a new post about it.

I am eternally grateful for the donation of the Hamster theme, and I don't really mind implementing themes used elsewhere as long as we're granted permission by their creators, however I don't want to make it a habit of scrounging up other site's themes. My goal is to have the majority of themes here that are made just for Blurty.

I will see about the star theme as soon as the next wave of new "Created for Blurty" themes have gone up.

:)

Mood themes in progress: Ovoids and Anime Eyes [27 Feb 2003|11:03am]
twotone
[ mood | restless ]

Hullo, everyone.

While fiddling with the Unexpected Hamsters mood icons for Blurty's use, I quickly came up with two other mood themes (and then spent the next week and a half badgering friends for feedback.)

I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions or indications that people are interested in these.

The first is the Ovoids mood theme. (May take some time to load; if people have trouble accessing that page, I can try to direct-link some images as a preview.)

This set is complete, as in "I really don't think I'll come up with any more, because I'm getting sick of looking at them satisfied with what I've completed so far".

The second set is the Anime Eyes mood theme, which is kind of stalled... I've come up with 36 icons so far.

Because I'm relying so heavily on the tree structure. there's a lot of repeating icons. I've asked my friends to help me think up new icons, or at least identify which moods *definitely* need a unique icon; any help will be greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah: the other problem with the Anime Eyes mood theme is that I used black for the eyebrows, etc. I belatedly realized that this means that some of these expressions will not be visible on a black background. If people are interested in this mood icon, I could go back and re-color the eyebrows to, um, really dark grey or something... but if people and/or Blurty are not interested in the set, I'd appreciate knowing that, too.

Thanks again for any comments or feedback!

I'm waiting on a couple of things, and I have to go out of town for a day or two to look at apartments where I'm moving to, but as soon as I get back we will have two new mood themes added to Blurty for public use!

Thanks to hazel_t and Twotone who have donated their time and moodthemes to us :)

FYI [14 Jan 2003|06:27pm]

angel
In case people are neglecting to read the userinfo for this community, I have decided to repeat this here:

Right now, Blurty does not allow users to create their own private mood theme.
Blurty is still in the developmental stages, and while this may be an option in the future, Blurty Admins have not yet announced intentions for implimenting this as a regular feature at this time.

You may wish to watch news and this official mood themes community for any announcements concerning this issue.
