5:57p - High, Med, and Lows
I thought this would be interesting to get a poll from everyone as to what they think is 'high end makeup' vs. 'non high end makeup'..

For me its not only the name and $$$ as the prada, versace, and bobbi brown cosmetics lines are not all that great in my opinion, especially what you pay for. I find that these lines are very limited in their colour schemes as well as the consistency of their makeup ie.. one thing might be decent and others might suck, all around i stay away from these lines..

As for brands like chanel and dior, i would consider these 'high end', but im not too impressed w/the quality of dior's makeup, their glosses are too hyped, just a fancy mix of juicy tubes and lipstick.. as far as chanel imo.. their glossimers are very much hyped up. ofcourse if one were to whip out a 'dior' shadow/lipliner infront of others they would probably think of u as 'posh'. as for chanel, this line is timeless and classic, as im not as familiar w/this line as i should be since ive been offered a very nice job at one of their boutiques, what i have tried i do love. I own some of their mascaras and shadows from my kit. Even though their colour scheme is a tad too limited to me, i think the quality of their 'essentials' (powder, concealer, foundation, etc) is very well rounded. I do commend them over the yrs for broadening their colour scheme though.

As for MAC, yes i do work for them.. but i personally dont consider this 'high end', as for the quality yes its very good quality, and the colour scheme is amazing. The price.. for me isnt too pricey, but deffinately not cheap, also MAC isnt hard to find around here at all. And i do think over the past few yrs MAC has become more of a 'trendy' brand for teenagers (like Urban Decay), instead of how they started off as a prestigious artisty brand for professionals. Though I will add their 'Pro line's' are infact some of the best pigments you can find if your a fashion makeup artist.

Lines I do personally find high end: Nars, Vincent Longo, Shiseido, Makeup Forever, and Kevyn Aucoin. The only two that are a hassle to get would be the Makeup Forever (Mufe), and the Kevyn Aucoin. I can only find Mufe at Barney's here in chicago.. well not any more because they got rid of it, I can find some stuff of theirs on sephora, but not the full line, i usually havta make a custom order from New York. The quality is amazing, and was started primarily for makeup artists. It's pretty pricey but def not as pricey as Kevyn Aucoin. For those of you who dont know or havent heard of Kevyn Aucoin, he was and always will be probably one of THE best makeup artists in the world, he passed away over ayr ago just as he was putting the finishing touches of his line. Now, they are still slowly releasing his line. I do have his brush set, which i paid 1000.00 for and well worth it, I have two of his mascara's, both priced at 25.00 a piece (plus s/h so more like 30.00) , and i own his Sensual Skin Enhancer: this can be used as a foundation, concealer , or highlighter/contourer( depending on the shades u choose). This by far is probably one of THE best products ive ever tried, and what i like about this is that it comes in a variety of colours from very pale to very dark. It is very pricey though.. about 50 bucks for a lil tub the size of a carmex jar, but all u need is a dab the size of a grain of rice no bs. I wouldnt recc this product unless your more 'advanced' in makeup as it is very tricky to put on. I had to order this online from New York as he only has a table at Henri Bendels over there or you can order it through his site.

basically to sum things up..

Low end- cover girl, maybelline, jane.. etc etc.. 80% of drug store brands..

med/low end: loreal, revlon etc etc

med end: lancome, clinique, MAC etc etc

High end: chanel, Mufe, NARS, vincent longo, kevyn aucoin..

what about you guys??
