hello everyone! [01 Nov 2003|04:51pm]

briansue
hello! i'm super-excited to have found this community because i am a HUGE dar fan and not enough people where i live (maine) know about her, so i love meeting people who do. i heard my first dar song at an open mic night a few years ago. one of the teachers from my school showed up and sang "you're aging well" and i was blown away. the song is just one of the most amazing things in the world of music. needless to say, i became addicted to dar's music and "you're aging well" is still one of my favorites. there aren't enough songs/people who send the message of acceptence and just being loved for who you are even if you're not what people want you to be.

i'm looking forward to talking to you all.

peace.

Fill Out The Meme [12 May 2003|06:28pm]

Let's get something happening here! (Although I think most of us are working towards or around finals, so...) Here's a survey, and here's the catch: Use Dar lyrics to answer the questions to your satisfaction.

1) Are you male or female?
2) Who are you?
3) Describe your neighborhood.
4) How do you look?
5) What is love?
6) If you could say one thing to the person you love what would it be?
7) What's your secret?
8) Are you strong?
9) Where do you wish you were right now?
10) What do you think about your best friends?
11) Any words of advice?
12) What do you wish you were doing right now?
13) What do you think about drugs and alcohol?
14) If you could say one thing to your enemy what would it be?
15) What do you usually do on Friday nights?
16) Are you for World Peace?
17) What would you do if you won a million dollars?
18) What do you think about your school?
19) How do you feel right now?
20) Any closing words?

Okay, let's see some answers!

Happy Mother's Day, everyone! [11 May 2003|03:12pm]

pknight
Everyone who has Beauty of the Rain:

Play "The One Who Knows". Play it for your mother, in remembrance of your mother, or just sending good vibes to your mom when listening to it. But it's the best Mother's Day song I think I've ever heard.

Hope everyone has a good day.

dar memories [20 Apr 2003|04:54pm]

Hmm. . . Yes, I do have story about a Dar song evoking a memory. The song in question is "The Ocean."

My junior year of high school, a group of friends and I decided to not go to the prom. It just wasn't my thing (although, my friends did rope me into it senior year, but that's another non-Dar related story), so we decided to go out to dinner instead. The group consisted of me and four friends: two lesbians, an immigrant, and a freshman (well, fresh< I>woman, but let's not get picky). We went out to dinner at a small, local resturant downtown, and went early so as not to be there when the Prom night rush came in. I remember that our immigrant friend wasn't paying attention when we ordered our meals, and so when he was asked what he wanted, he was unprepared. "I'll have what she's having." He had said, pointing to me. And after the waitress left, he leaned across the table to ask me: "Now, what did we order?"

But anyway, on to the Dar part. After we finished dinner, we decided we needed something to do, and one of my friends suggested we go the the playground down the street. So we did, and we sat on the swings and watched all the other high school kids walk around down town in their tuxedoes and gowns. As we were swinging, someone suggested we sing a song. "Something that mimics the swaying of the swings."

So we started singing Dar's "The Ocean" because the rhythm worked so well. Escpecially the "la la la la's." So now whenever I hear that song, I think of that time we all blew off the Prom to play on the swings (it was so much more fun. . .)

"you don't know how lucky you are
you don't know how much I adore you
you are a welcoming back from the ocean

la la la la, la la la la la la la la . . ."

I'd like to pose a question: [20 Apr 2003|09:45am]

What was the most memorable first listening of a Dar song? Or, alternately, what is the strongest memory that one of Dar's songs evokes?

I'll answer this, and hope it catches on...

Last summer, my aunt, her boyfriend, and my cousin kidnapped me and took me back to Seattle with them. It was great fun. During my stay there, my cousin V went to stay with her dad, and my aunt G and her boyfriend O (they actually call themselves this, so I'm not just being overly paranoid here), and I went to Canada on a two-day trip. In a Rabbit. I got the backseat to myself, so it wasn't very crowded, but I'd never before been in a car that small. It was an experience.

So, that night, we were back in Washington, and it was after midnight. We were trying (unsuccessfully) to find a hotel that wasn't booked or horribly expensive. We were between towns, and I was getting tired, so I figured I'd listen to some music. So, I put on my headphones, and told the adults I'd be incommunicado for a while. And I plugged in End of the Summer, laid down across the backseat, craned my neck...and heard "Are You Out There" come blasting out at me.

As it did, the stars became visible, and the moon, and the sensation of the car moving under me, and....it was an extremely memorable experience for me. Listening to that song always brings me back to when I was on vacation, stargazing through a large window in a small car. It's just...*sigh* wonderful for me to remember.

So, does anyone else have anything interesting to post? Memories? Stories? Anything?

so... what does everyone think of the beauty of the rain??

personally, i love it. yes, it is a more produced sound, but i enjoy the way dar shifts her songs to be recorded differently than they are performed live. if you have heard the songs live... i'll just say they *are* different... more percussion, keys... layers, layers.

my favorite as of now: "mercy of the fallen" you couldn't start the cd off with a better song. i also love love "farewell to the old me" and "closer to me"

my one thing to pick at: lyrics. don't get me wrong, they're as amazing as ever... but they're more structured. one reason i'm drawn to her songs is the free stlye form. these have more of a 4 line verse/chorus/ 4 line verse... way to them.

anyone planning on attending the borders in store in bryn mawr on sunday??? i'm excited.

New Album out Feb. 18th!!!!

It's called The Beauty of the Rain, me thinks, or something close. You can listen to five or six of the songs at www.darwilliams.com

Yay! I hope it's better than the Green World. Not that I didn't like the Green World but it was a far cry from Mortal City, which I love to death.

I love dar a lot. I've seen her in concert twice both at Michigan State University. Got her autograph the second time. My best friend and I were hoping up and down chanting her name and caught her eye. She's so cute! and awesome

anyway, I'm Alex I'm 20 year old college student studying art. My favorite Dar album is "Mortal City" my favorite songs being "as cool as i am" and "are you out there."

At the last concert she mentioned having a new album out this february.

I ::heart:: dar.

I adore her up-beat and sweet songs. My favorites are the christians and the pagans, wilder than her, party generation, when I was a boy, as cool as i am, calling the moon, the ...crisis of a coed, playing the greed and the babysitter's here. I hope I can actually see her live one day, but ani and tori get priority.

So yesh, I'm 20.. I should be sophmore but I'm a second semester freshman at montserrat college of art.

A few days ago I was blaring 'as cool as i am' and one of my roommates came bounding up the stairs chanting 'dar dar dar!' oh it was so cute!
