recap of my musical year to this point... Marching Band was awesome. We had a great show and did amazing at our competitions. Won all of our local comps. Got 4th at BOA St Louis Super Regional. Won the University of Illinois Marching Band Competition again with our best performance of the year. So emotional. I really got to know more kids better this year and it was amazing. Jazz Band North Shore we didn't do so hott but it was fun. Our music this year was definitely better then last year and my best friend made the group which was definitely a plus. We placed at Jazz in the Meadows which is one of the biggest high school jazz comps in the midwest so that was HUGE. We had made a bet with our director and he ended up having to shave his beard and cut his hair really short. It has been a good year for jazz band surprisingly, all things considered. Showchoir Combo This has been the best activity this year that I have been involved with. The people in the group are amazing and we always have lots of fun. Singers are great and the combo is great so it is just a fun time. The group won Grand Champion at 3 of our 4 competitions. The combo also won 3 out of 4 times but it was because we got screwed at the one competition. It ended our 3 1/2 year streak of best combo awards at every competition. Somehow we got 5th at that one comp? Whatever. It was still an awesome time. Competition season is over and now all we have left is the end of the year concert. Orchestra Um...we had a concert? Symphonic Band We are playing an awesome piece for Super State this year down at University of Illinois, assuming we make it but we pretty much always do. Definitely exciting. This is my first year in it and I'm third chair behind people who got 1st and 2nd chair at All State. Personal Accomplishments IMEA District 7 Orchestra Trumpet, an honor group that draws from 65 or so schools. I did well enough to make it into the orchestra which tends to be a little more competitive. Very Proud. District 214 Honor Band Trumpet, an honor group that draws from all the schools in my school district. I had an amazing time and got to meet some seriously amazing people. Looking forward to for the rest of the year... I am auditioning for the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra April 6th. This is one of the most competitive Youth Orchestra's in the country and if I make it it means that I would get to work with members of the CSO in sectionals. HOTT to say the least. Super State for our symphonic band should be a blast. Opportunity to hear all the top groups in the state and perform in one of the top 3 accoustically perfect venues in the world. Whats not to love. Wow, That Sucked Our concert SUCKED. I came in really early and confused everyone else so they didn't play that part. It sounded very bad. But at least we were slightly more in tune than the low band. Slightly being the key word. Current Mood: exhausted |

Vibrato My Vibrato is horrible. I went to this thing last year that James Galway talked about flute and played at and he said you baiscially say "Who" while you are playing. But how often are you supposed to "who" and how noticable should it be? I got 5th chair because my Vibrato is bad, and our director said I was really good otherwise so I really need to work on it. New Here Hi ya'll. My name is Kris and I play the flute. I tired joining a flute community, but they NEVER update except when someone wants to buy a new piccolo. But ya'll look a bit more active so, maybe this will be more fun? I hope. Our band was 5th in State. Hopefully we'll do better next year. I guess there's nothing else to say, really, so...bye! band geek haha yeah thats awesome. however section rivalry leads me to say: It would look better with a clarinet =] hehe but saxes are still awesome. ive got my trumpet and if i get that down next is sax =] yay for saxes! |

I think we need... We need to make some promoting things. Like in this other community I am in, _Gossipgirl. That would be a great way to round up some more band geeks in here. lol. Just joined... Hi! My name is Stacey. I play alto saxophone in the York Cougar Band in (as you guessed it lol) York, South Carolina. I have been in band since my 6th grade year and I love it!!! I am a freshman by the way. We have been state marching champions for 3 or 4 years straight...I think. lol. I know that's terrible that I don't even know for sure. But anywayz...we were in our first 4A State competition this year and we got 5th out of 10 bands! We were so proud. But I bet I'm putting you to sleep now eh? lol.
